We got in s tufted wool rug that had been damaged from a water leak in the customers home. It sat in the water for about 7-8 hours then after it dried a little (not sure what that means) was rolled and in put in the garage for a week or so before they called us. It's dry right now, didn't seem to get any mold ands doesn't stink at all, but it seems like the tufts are ungluing. The backing is loose and I tugged on a few tufts and they came out pretty easily. Only one half of the carpet got wet and that half is all loose and floppy the other half still has integrity. Is there any cure for this? Can it be re-glued? Thanks ahead for any help. Matthew
The labor and expense to wash, decontaminate, hope you don't pull out too many tufts during extraction/drying, remove the material backing, re-latex the back - you could have bought 2 more new ones. I'd say pass on it. Tufted rugs are cheap to replace. Lisa
If they like the rug, it's irreplacable, and want to spend the money, find someone you can sub it out to. Check with places that refringe and bind/serge, and then mark up the invoice. We upgrade the backing to felt or rubber and they end up with a better rug than they had! Win/win...
