This tip shows how we clean out the vacuum hoses on our truck mounts. Let's face it we all dump at one time or another with our vacuum lines. The funky water can really be foul. So what do you do? Also if you are a multi-truck business like myself you have some employees pick up things they should not. Once I found a toothpick lodged in a 2" hose using the method shown in the video. It had hair and thread all over it and you can bet it restricted vacuum flow. That is a dry time killer. So to kill two birds with one stone here is a video showing how we clear and clean vacuum hoses. Hope you find this tip helpful.

Good idea Rob.Thats how I do mine but I attach a line to the cloth in case it gets hung up inside your line on something. With a line attached you can pull the cloth back out. Its a PITA if you get a cloth stuck somewhere inside a hose.

Rob must clean those hoses frequently. That white towel came through looking pretty white and clean at the other end!

    I thought that myself. LOL
    great idea.

I would have dropped the towel in a muddy puddle before i took it out of the tank. Just for Video impact LOL

Anybody use those external hose cleaners that you hook to your solution hose and run over the suction hose to clean the out side???
    What are they like.
Being in a rural area my hoses can get quite muddy a times.

I usually pour it in the tank but that's not a bad idea either!

I did this by accident on a job once, spotting rag was about a foot from the end of my hose and sucked into it, it jammed in a connector part way and the hose jumped about 6 feet off the floor, land on the trigger of my pump up sprayer which was pointed at my face! After wiping the pre spray out of my eyes and cleaning up the custy's hardwood (lucky it was a vacant), i promised myself I would be more careful where I put my spotting rags! On a positive note it made me realize that my internal connectors where the smallest part of my hose and was reducing air flow so I since customized them to reduce the restriction. So yeah be careful when doing this, hold onto your hose as it can fly!

The Hoser is a great tool for keeping the exterior of the hose clean. I did find it very helpful especially if doing restoration jobs where the hoses might be pulled through Cat #2 or #3 water. It did seem pricey to me when I was buying one. Of course, I sell them now and the price seems just about right.
