Haven't posted in a while but had to post this one - no pics (my bad). Got a wool rug in to clean. One corner is really bad so I decided to take a good look at it. Grinned the rug to look at the base of the fibers. There is so much crap in the rug that it actually stayed bent over and I had to bent it back into shape! Smells awful. I am thinking a dog layed there for years maybe. It is stiff as a board! I soaked it overnight with Xtol (just the corner for now) and came back to extract (I want to work on just the corner then the whole rug later) no difference! The crap is so hard that the soap won't even break it down! It it almost like wax. What the he%$ is wrong with people!!!!!!!!!!!!!???
Isn't it amazing how people will abuse their belongings. How much was the rug worth at one time? (the value is next to nothing now I am sure)
I recently blogged abot Urine pretreatments http://oriental-rug-cleaning.blogspot.com/2011/10/urine-contamination-send-vinegar-back.html Bridgepoint’s TCU Neutralizer has special solvents in it to deal with exactly what you are describing. The buildup of lipids from dogs can be a real problem. BP should have a new replacement out for wool rugs Nov 1 but for now TCU is a good option. Best wishes, Barry
Thanks Barry - will try. This crap is so thick that it can be scraped out with a pocket knife! No pics on this one - sorry.
