I have a client that wants to store her orinetal rug in an unheated barn, which is not completely bug and mouse proff IMO. She claims that it should be wrapped in a paper wrapping and moth balled. I have been using a 6mil plastic tube type bags for deliverys and thought this may be a better wrap?
Anyone here know the correct way to store them?

Hi, Lisa the "RUG CHIC" has posted several times on how to handle rugs like this and other things. Use the search function and query the database. I believe you will find something she wrote on this very helpful. Hope this helps.

For long term storage of rugs, the preferred wrapping material is Tyvek. Do not wrap in plastic, as it does not breathe and can trap moisture inside. The moisture leads to many issues including possible mold.

Do not store with moth balls. They can also do damage over time. More or less depending upon the chemical make-up. Be especially aware of para-dichloride benzene moth balls and rugs.

Many rugs do not need special treatment. But MasterBlend makes a product to repel moths. Chemspec used to, but I don't think they make it any more. Zinc silicaflouride or magnesium silicaflouride products would work. You can order the Master Blend product from Interlink Supply if your local distributor does not stock it. Expect a 3 week wait.
