We have this tufted rug that we cleaned and the long fringes didn't look to good no matter what we did. So we sprayed a weak solution of peroxide and let them dry. They look great but now they are a little stiff. Is their any way to soften them without re-cleaning or staining them?
They are stiff because they are still dirty. Peroxide whitens (and deteriorates) the cotton - but it does not remove soil. You need to get a cotton cleaner and SCRUB and clean these tassels and acid rinse so there is no residue. We always get releases from clients if we choose to use bleach or peroxide, because they damage the cotton. On this rug, it's bad cotton anyway, so you are not rising devaluing a rug that has little value to begin with. Lisa
I would mix up some Bridgepoint Fabric Shampoo into a foam. Apply and scrub in with a horsehair brush. Rinse with an acid rinse in the rinse water. Wool Perfect would be my choice.
