Water volume can improve cleaning but you MUST do the other 2 mods 1st or you will be doing water damage after carpet cleaning! So after you crank up the vac and heat let me know and we'll crank up the volume!!!
Ok so now you want more you volume junkie. Heres the next step. Turn up your rpms a couple of hundred rpm's. This will create a little more flow from your pump. If you have a really puny pump, then get a slightly larger pump pulley. (1 inch can make a huge difference). Then your volume will shoot up...uhhh....down on the target,CARPET baby!
Next change your fresh water inlet hose to 3/8's if you have the standard 1/2 inch. Many pumps are starving for more water and can handle a lot more than being delivered by TM manufacturers today. More in = more out!
A prochem Ti wand will give you more jets, more LARGER jets, that are closer to the floor. Thus more volume/heat is transferred where you want it. To the carpet fiber. So throw out the old wand and move up to the big boy wand! [my e-mail] vacuumschemicalssupplies@yahoo.com
Keith- I hate to say this, but I think most (if not all) of your posts could be disputed by half the guys on the other boards. The other half wouldn't know. I've cleaned with warm and hot water and come to the same end. It might take longer to get there though with warm water. Vacuum would be the most important part of cleaning. Flow is overrated once you get to a certain point. Just my opinion.
I respect your opinion Doug. It's not for everyone, I'm just offering it out there. And if it wasn't that important then TM manufacturers wouldn't keep offering more heat, vacuum and the like. Though I agree some is hype. And not everyone has a big Power-Clean Gen like you. Try using an old Prochem Legend witha baby 3 blower and no heat.
"Next change your fresh water inlet hose to 3/8's if you have the standard 1/2 inch." Why you going smaller? Or do you mean 3/4???
If you want more "pop" at the wand, use more heat while cleaning (over 220ยบ). Superheated water under pressure expands, and will increase the "speed" of the flow to your wand. We noticed this even when running dual wands!
That's the point, though. Getting through a given job more efficiently... more quickly as a result. A guy with a portable, who is meticulous and patient can do as good a job as a guy with a truck mount. But how long can he do that...? At some point, it becomes obvious that it's taking too long. Granted, that's one extreme end of the spectrum. But it serves to illustrate the point. Heat decreases job time, as you know personally. It's seriously important. No doubt. But if it was the most important, the heat and flow would be virtually inconsequential. But they aren't. I feel sort of the opposite. But I guess the "certain point" statement is too non-specific enough to address directly. In general, more flow allows more liquid to more efficiently flush larger amounts of "stuff" from the carpet. Lower flows have a reduced amount of ability. It's inconsequential if the only carpets you encounter are pretty clean. But the dirtier they are and the more fiber present to flush "through", the more important flow becomes. But without a balanced vacuum capable of recovering increased flow, you could be creating problems with flow- alone. So, we get back to your statement that "vacuum is important". And it is...
Flow is important, but superheated-flow works even better. A completely balanced and strong vacuum system, under all kinds of operating and cleaning conditions, equates to giving you the BEST of just about all cleaning circumstances you'll encounter.
VCS , Increasing the 3/8 inlet hose to 1/2 inlet hose will alow for more water volume, however MOst systems use negative pressure so the chemicle injection will work correctly. By going to 1/2 hose you may lose the use of chemilce injection. Wich does not bother me, I prefer clear water rinse. NICK
