Picked up a rug the other day. 7x9 wool hand me down from a neighbor. They let there brother clean it and it now stinks bad. They have 2 labs (no urine) who we're very oily. I feel it wasn't cleaned correctly, was over wetted and now has a ton of dirt and dander maybe trapped in. It is still damp too. They said see what you can do with it. They fixed Tre's surfboard for free and I'm going to clean this rug at nc for them. So what ya think? (It is not a bleeder)

Thanks Ara I pit cleaned it. However it still smelled, so we deodorized it with an anti-microbial and then when dry to the touch we cleaned it with the Cimex. I had it hanging in my shop and Tre (I am on vacation till Monday) took it down and gave it back to them. Now it still smells. I think it was not completely dry. So how long Ara does it take for a thick and heavy area rug take to FULLY dry??

I dont recomend pit cleaning without a large heated drying room. Drying times vary so i cant answer that question. Thats kind of like asking how many MPG without know the size of the engine.

Everyone needs a MOISTURE SENSOR for rugs - because you're right Rob, if there is still some moisture in the inside cotton fibers, it's still going to smell.

Did you soak the rug in acetic acid first to remove as much of the urine salts as you could?

I've heard from my rug coaching members that Bridgepoints Hydrocide works really well at removing odors - and I've had good luck with Materblends Anti-Allergen Deodorizer.

I have also been having good luck with the Odorox machine in smashing out lingering odors - we're still testing it. But you of course need to remove as much of the source as possible.

If this rug is TUFTED - you are going to fail in removing the odor completely (sorry) - if it's woven, then a good acid soak, good shampoo, good deodorizing, and complete dry-out should do the trick.

Lisa thanks for the advice! We set up a dehu in the shop and hung the rug. It dried fast and when the moisture meter said it was dry we took it back. Smelled and looked GREAT!! :AddEmoticons0423:
