The 454 is overheating and shutting down. It will build up heat and work fine if you using water but if you stop to move things it will continue building heat up to 320 degrees an eventually shut down. The high temp shutdown is at 320 degrees. The diverter valve is working you can hear it change the pitch of the engine as you work. We have replaced the diverter valve and the float in the water box on the advice of sapphire. Did not correct the problem . Any ideas

Does it have a temperature relief valve
open your waste tank with the lid open check if the unit dumps hot water when it gets to 320 if it does that has to cool down the machine

Why would you even mess with it???????/ It has to still be under warranty.............. Take it to your dealer and make them fix it........ Isn't that what the warranty is for?

I'm not real familiar with the machine, but I would go through and make sure anything related to controlling the heat was working properly. The solenoid that dumps water into the waste tank would be a good place to start. That solenoid should dump water to help regulate the temperature to whatever you have it set. It will also open when you turn the temp dial down. Under normal circumstances it should be opening and closing at regular intervals while the machine is running. To check it I usually remove the waste lid and turn the machine on with diverter on and temp dial up and let it heat up about 5 or 10 minutes and watch to see if it dumps water. You can also turn the dial down below what the temperature gauge says and it should immediately come on and dump water to cool the machine down. If you look at your temperature gauge and it says 200 degrees for example, then turn the temp dial down below 200 degrees and it should kick in and dump water then completely stop after a short while. If it does not open up the machine will continue to build heat and shut down.

I would also make sure any thermal relief valve on the machine is working. The thermal relief valve controls how hot the water in the water box gets to prevent overheating of the pump. Under normal operating conditions it should open and dump water to cool down the water box. If it gets stuck in a closed position or does not open and close as it should water in the water box will get extremely hot and also lead to an over heating situation. I would swap out the one on the machine with a new one, but keep the old one as a spare. Thermal relief valves are rated to specific temps. Mine is rated for 180 degrees, but I prefer to use a 165 degree valve to keep the water going through the pump a little cooler. I still get excellent heat at the wand. http://www.jondon.com/catalog/advan...words=thermal relief &image.x=-93&image.y=-85

If the machine has high and low pressure orifices make sure they are not clogged since that is a major reason some heat exchanger truck mounts over heat. It is usually the very first thing I check on my Boxxer 421 when I have an overheating problem and it is usually the cause. If it has them there should be access to them on the front of the machine.

I think a descale is probably in order unless you have already done that since this problem started. The last thing that could cause the problem that I know of is the main temerature control. You will have to drive that 10 hours if that is the case and get warranty service.

Btw, I hope you kept that diverter valve since there was probably nothing wrong with it. The one on my Boxxer cost a fortune!
I hope this helps. These are things you can check yourself. Once you understand how to check these things you can do it fairly quickly.

I just want to add something that should be obvious, but if you don't have a water softener on that thing I highly recommend you get one and so does Sapphire. Scale builds up very quickly, especially in high temp heat exchanger truck mounts. Get a water softener asap if you don't have one.

problem solved with a new float arm . The previous design was sticking and not letting the water box fill up. Sapphire issued a new one.
