I have always had my hoses crimped by my local hydraulic mechanic. I have noticed some places sell reusable field crimps. Has any out there used these in the field. If so do you need any special tools to do so? Will they hold up to the pressures and how have they performed? thanks wayne aka spotman

Wayne, I started crimping my own lines along time ago. I got tired of spending so much money and travel time every time a hose burst. Crimping my own lines has really proven itself to be efficient and cost effective. I also use the screw in type for my wire braided lines. In my opinion they really arent reusable because they never seem to work as well as the first time. No special tools required to install them. I use a cutting tool for the line and a wrench and or ratchet. After cutting the line I like to swing the line around like a cowboy trying to rope a calf. This throws fluid out the lines and clears any debris from cutting that may potentially clog a screen or filter. Having a vise is always helpful when dealing with pressure lines. I use the vise to lightly hold the line so I can use both hands.I like to shave the tip of the line so it seats all the way snug and always make sure it bottoms out or it can leak. BTW, the part on the outside of the line is reverse thread.

You can get them @ windtrax.com

If they are installed slightly off center they can damage the core of the hose resulting in a blister and posible blackdeath.
