I have the attached 8x10 rug that has the weird rubber smell that has been discussed before. I would like to know the steps and materials required to remove the backing and reapply latex to the rug and if this would be a permanent solution to the smell. would the rug be able to be cleaned in the future with the new latex/backing? Any tips greatly appreciated!

Removing the backing and replacing the latex will make a significant reduction in the odor, but I do not think it will be 100% success. Hope for 70 to 80% of the odor eliminated from reports I have heard.

Hello,
The problem with those rugs is the filler in the latex. It is usually crushed limestone and often has sulfur in it. The sulfur in its non-volatile state has little smell but on exposure to the air it oxidizes and the volatile sulfur outgassing the bad smell. To remove the smell you must remove all the sulfurous latex backing. With work you can het most of it off but it is tough to get all of it. If any remains then the problem continues even if not as bad. Since the smell is a manufacturing defect trying to return the rug may be an alternative. The real problem is that the more you work to remove the backing the better it will be but more work means more money to the customer or in lost time to you. Wish I had better news.
Best wishes,

This is a manufacturing flaw, and it WILL get worse when you clean it - then it will become YOUR problem, not theirs.

When we get these rugs in we tell them it's a defect, and to take it back to the store to exchange or get a refund. After enough of this these yahoos will stop selling them. I'm sorry to hear it's from Restoration Hardware (LOVE THEM!) - they usually carry quality items. Pier One (HATE THEM!) sells most of the garbage rugs out today.

Here's a post on this problem => This Rug STINKS!

Hope that helps,
Lisa

.Knowing how a lot of people work at this time, I might need to say looking on line has superb benefits. While could very well be engulfed by the massive amount of air flights to the destination point you are able to narrow this kind of search arena considerably.

When you experience selected not less than five or perhaps six environment flights that you simply feel will give you a significant, the next specify see around is their particular various fees and various costs you will encounter
