It has a float switch which turns it on and off.

Prochem APOs use two float switches. One mounted high to turn it on and a lower one to turn it off. Some water, to the level of lower off switch remains. The one I had was a diaphragm pump and pumped out in "strong spurts" as apposed to continuous flow. It also had two check valves with balls and springs inside that are prone to clogging with lint. Also the end of the discharge hose needed to be anchored to the ground or it will travel backwards as it pulses. I used a long thin screwdriver through the hose as a spike.

Unless it has been retrofitted, the performer did not come with what you describe. It came with an internal bilge pump equipped with a single on/off float switch. If his pump is external then it is as you described. Neither system runs continuously.

More information is needed, Tex.... What specific problem are you having? Do you have an intank APO, or an external APO? Does it stay on after the tank is empty? Or, not work at all? Does it work sporadically? Once we have specifics, perhaps we can help you further........
