Can pocket or regular size UV Flashlights do a good job of detecting urine on carpet instead of having to buy a $300 blacklight to lug around?

What do you guys use to detect urine on carpet other than being able to see it with your own eyes... :)

Use my nose alot, I will literally crawl on hands and knees sniffing. Also carry a toolkit so I can disengage carpet and look at backing whenever necessary. Also use a moisture probe, but I have found urine with my nose the probe couldn't detect.

I don't think I would buy a black light. One of my customers bought her own for $30 off ebay that does the exact same thing. The ones my distributor sells are $300--rip off.

It would be cool to have, but I think it's a luxury, not a need.

I have the large hand held Spot Light type. I use it mainly when a customer says his/her pet only ever wet in this spot ONCE ONLY.
I was questioned about the NON removal of unire odour once where a customer had said the above. I took my light and pulled the curtains and they were amazed to see the little darling had also pee'd on the curtains on the side of the sofa's and OTHER areas.
It's always the carpet cleaner in some of their minds that are at fault when something like that happens.
So if your ever told the pet only wet in one certain area get your light out and check for yourself, at the very least it will save you a return trip.

Well, it is a black light 24 inches tube, it might work. but for $12 i would try it. I might buy it in before going home, if it doesn't work at least my daughters can play with it.

I bought it, I'll take the picture later, but I already tried in the around the toilet, and it looks that is working, and I saw the urines sprinkles, but how I told you the real test will be after I pee on the carpet.
I'll do it. It is a scientific purpose. Can I post those pictures?

I have a spectraline Uv & it definitely works but it isn't convenient to use so years ago before all the pocket UVs showed up in our industry I bought a small UV light that I can carry on my belt with my Leatherman, Extra bits, Led Pocket light & bone scraper. It does work although you either need a totally dark room or the light has to be very close to the suspected contaminated area.

The smaller light has helped out with jobs more than the bigger light ever has & it uses a easy to find AA battery.

I have large hand held, led, small version simliar to wal mart version,55watts,an mini hand held...

Best by far so far, large 300 ballast version...

Also use special room darkening shades .But always try to get a pictures of where spots are,to show difference versus old spots...

I get very detailed in this, graph paper showing room and size and circumference of spots, then they get outlined in chalk .Or lite taped to show total contimination areas for the water claws and or other treatments ...

An speaking of batteries as in Billy above, you should have a outlet with a mini battery charger in your vehicle.Never a shortage of rechargebles when need be...

I also have the $300 plus unit and still require the windows blackened or I do a night time inspection which I charge for. using white chalk sure helps. I bought a small handheld battery powered unit at connections 2 years ago also. I think it was $50.00
I still have to pull my big one out to see the whole picture.

I have also melted carpets with my big lamp, becarful when you set it down while waiting for it to warm up or cool down.

I laugh at you that pertend to be pro's, Like my friend Paul from Canadia said "You can get a bissel at Wall Mart too" Take a tool in that they don't have or can't buy at Wall Mart themselfs and earn some money for your skills. Take in stuff they have, looks rinky dinked or can get and no matter what you charge the feel they gotten ripped off.

    Ok Guys;
I did the test where I work during nights.I got the pictures and everything.
I didn't pee on my carpet but I did pee in a piece of carpet, but nothing, I used my 51 LED flashlight and the new black light I got from Wal-Mart for under $11, maybe it did not show because the piece of carpet where I urinated was a dark green color, or maybe was fresh.
After I tested on the carpet, I went to the restroom to do another test. I used my flashlight I saw the urine etc etc, but when I used the black light from wall-mart it was better I saw even more urine, the light was stronger in fact I was feeling dizzy.
I can tell the black light from wal-mart is better, 24 inches long you can also buy the tube for $8 and it is good, I also have another blacklight 6 inches long, I got it when I bought pee gone, with the free black light, but the best one is from wal mart.
    I will post the pictures.
But i think it's a good product for under $11

Ultra-violet or black light describes a very wide range of light. For an analogy, it is like saying "visible light." That includes red, yellow, blue, etc. or the mix of all that we know as white light.

So a UV light could be putting out light in any part of the UV spectrum or a mix of different UV wavelengths.

The particular UV needed for pet urine detection is 385 nm. Some of the standard sized flashlights put out a narrow range of light at and very near that frequency. These will work best. If used with the yellow googgles, they will work fine even in a room that has not been completely darkened. Price range on these is $200 to $350.

If you can see "purple" light coming from a UV light, now that most or all of the UV radiation is not the right wavelength for detecting urine. (But it might work great for your glow-in-the-dark posters.)

345 nm - 355 nm helps accelerate stain removal by oxidizers like Stain Zone and Stain Magic. Some lights cover both ranges.
