What do you think would happen if I decided to use Pet Zone on wool? If the product needs to be flushed out anyway. What are the problems that can or will occur? And what is worse urine contamination or the product?
PetZone is an oxidizer. PetZONE or any oxidizer can turn wool fibers yellow or brown as well as possobily weakening the fibers. If the fiber is a dark color already, the yellowing may hardly be noticed. However, if the area to be treated is cream colored or off-white, the yellowing could be very palinly seen. If rinse soon, Pet ZONE should do a very minimal amount of weakening to the fiber. Not enough for most folks to notice unless the piece is a museum quality textile. I suggest you flush the affected area with water. Submerse in a solution with TCU Neutralizer or other acid based product for urine removal. Get as much of the urine out as possible by flushing with large volumes of water and TCU Neutralizer before using PEtZONE or any other product, However, the rug is already damaged. The continued presence of urine is likely worse for the rug than any treatment of the urine would be. Proper cleaning and urine treatment is the "lesser of two evils" situation. Cleaning will almost always beat non-cleaning. It is still good to know the risk and make sure the owner of the rug has approved what you will be doing.
Thanks for asking Ara Scott, that was the answer I was looking for as well. I was curious what would be safe to use on wool for urine too. Thankfully I don't run into that situation much but it sure helps to know how to handle it next time.
