My Uncle has been having a problem with bed bugs in his house. They got in by way of neighbors visiting and he has been using chems, vacuuming 2x a day, baking everything in the dryer, even cooking clothing and linens and still he is having a problem and cannot get rid of them. Anyone that does pest control do you have any tips as I hear that chems will not kill them.
Is he up there in Canada too? I am not an exterminator, and I run from bedbugs, but one thing I know will kill them is freezing them. If it is cold enough there now maybe have your uncle stay somewhere for a few days and try opening all the windows and freeze the whole house. Unplug any electronics that may be a heatsource (even DVD players / computers etc..) or if possible maybe even turn the power off while doing this. open all closet doors, cabinets dresser drawers etc. Just an idea.
Hi Richard i own a pest control company here in the UK we have a big problem with bed bugs here in London, i wouold reccomend a professional pest control company treat for your uncle if you use cans of sprays you will kil some of the bugs but also cause the bugs to move elsewhere in the room or the house, bed bugs will live and feed close to the host so he should look under the bed frame and on the backs and under surrounding furniture they do not like light so will be in areas dark, they like to live in cracks and crevices. They will feed approx every 5 days a defecate blood this will be the small pepper dust like spots your uncle will see on the seams or bed frame they really are difficult to control and a professional pest control company would be his best option hope this helps roger
Well he has had the place sprayed several times but the chems do not kill them off. He has been using his convection oven and literally baking all clothing and stuff in the house continuously. I like the freezing idea but it just has'nt got cold enough. I recommended also letting the house freeze if it gets cold enough but he might want to be careful about the plumbing. Perhaps shutting off the water supply to the whole house and bleeding the pipes first, then go stay at a hotel for a few days. At least, that's what I would do.
A customer I did swears the carpet cleaner brought bed bugs into her home. While he was cleaning She noticed them coming out of his portable machine... By that time it was too late.
Mattress covers are critical because the bugs have no exit. link to mattress covers: http://www.pestservices.ca/mattress.htm?gclid=CN60i4TEhq0CFQMDQAodXn_qTQ You can probably get mattress covers at Wal-Mart, look for the allergy ones but the label should also say bed bugs. Climb ups help a lot too http://www.insect-interceptor.com/distributors.shtml http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGDUwlZ9ZaY
You're in Ontario, Should be plenty cold enough, set the stuff outside for a few days, then bring it back in, should take care of the problem. There are a few chemicals that work better for bed bugs than others, but they are a pain to get if your not PC certified. Freezing them is the easiest, If the property isn't something that is used every day, that's how we handle a lot of customer's smaller belongings.
