Hello - I just joined the forum. I own Barkley's Pet Waste Cleanup (barkleyscleanup.com) and I am expanding my services to include carpet and upholstery cleaning, with immediate focus on pet related problems. I've been working part time with a local outfit that does really well with pet problems, so it seems logical for me to offer such services, but I don't know enough about the equipment to select what I need.

I need a panel van that will fit in my garage - ex. GMC 2500/3500 135" cargo van, and TM equipment. A friend is looking for a van at auction so I might only need the TM. I'm working with Rick Byers at Interlink Supply in Colo Spgs to find the right setup, so anything I consider buying would need to pass his inspection.

My budget including the van is around $12k.

    Thanks,

    Jeff Parsons

Well dude, since you are buying from a distributor..

Most distributors do not like equipment made by smaller companies. it is way to keep you indebted and working for a distributor for life , while he goes on vactions.

    Jeff:

I've got the perfect one for you:

    2000 GMC 3500 with 40,000 Miles

21 HP Hammer system (I built it Dec 2000) with Roots #36 Blower, Cat 290, 220,000 BTU propane heater, 80 gal. recovery tank, 3 reels and floor wand.
System has about 700 hours on it. (It was one of a multi- truck company, that was rarely used. It was the 3rd Hammer purchased by the company and they subsequently downsized.)

The van is immaculate except for a small rip in the driver's seat and a bent bumper (corner only) on the driver's side rear.

    $12,000

    danged if you do...

I have to start somewhere, and local people are always good to know, regardless of where the relationship ends up. Thanks for the response to a newbie!

    Too far

Sounds great, but I'm too far away. I moved from Orlando a year ago and used to run up through GA to W. NC all the time.

Yes gettting to know locals a must. If you have a local dist to look it over he will most likly tell you to only buy the brand he sells and tell you every thing else is crap. try calling joe at 719-360-0360 he maybe able to help you. My advice is buy something you can fix that you are not atached to a distributor.

I know I come of brazen and a jerk but I have seen it happen so much.

Jeff theres a couple of "used" van lots in the Springs, one is on the corner of Brookside & Tejon, they have several panel vans. As far as Rick & Interlink, he WILL help you out. I'm not a "new" buying type of guy and Rick has dealt with my "used" shopping for years. If theres something he can help you with he will. Theres used equipment coming through there every once in awhile. I'll try to remember the other lots with vans.

    Jeff,

Since you already have an established customer based with pets, I suspect you will be doing some pet urine clean-up jobs. I'll be glad to share my manual on pet urine stains and odor at no cost. Just need you email address and I'll send you a copy.

I think Rick will treat you well. But it is wise to use a little caution in any business transaction. Remember that Nick, a manufacturer of truck mounts without a distributor in your area, has his own particular bias. And yes, I have my bias as well. Notice the logo. :)

    Scott Warrington

P.S. The offer for the manual is good for anyone who asks and provides their email address.

Scott , notice I have not tried to sell him a machine nor do I care too. I just know how bridgepoint distributors act when a customer is looking at equipment they dont sell. Tell me Scott you have never seen A Bridgepoint dealer slam another mfg of equipment they dont sell, or tell there customer too shop elsewhere when a customer buys a machine from someone else.

Please answear this truthfully scott, as I can and will produce a list of several distributors. Just trying to give this nice young man a heads up.

Most Interlink distributors carry at least two brands, often three or four lines of truckmounts. This allows them to direct the customer toward a unit they feel is best for the customer, not one truckmount because it is the only one they sell.

I could never categorize the way "a Bridgepoint" (actually Interlink) distributor handles any situation. That would be a broad stereo type. Like saying "saying this is the way a distributor from Texas would treat you."

They are all different. A large group of independent distributors who have joined together for amrketing and to have volume buying to help give their customers a better deal. Like any segment of our industry there are some who see things one way and some who see it another.

Persoanlly, I have never know of a distributor to turn someone away because of where they purchased their equipment. I personally have only known of two folks who were asked to take their business somewhere else. In both caes their were issues that went way beyond the brand of equipment they bought.

Any wise distributor wants as many customers as they can get. A distributor turning away a customer because they bought a truckmount somewhere else would be like a cleaner refusing to clean someone's carpet becuase they once had their carpet cleaned by _________. (Fill in the blank with any company you don't like.)

I don't doubt your word that you know a time it happened. With many different distributors, not all of them act smart all the time. That doesn't make it a smart thing to do or mean that it is a common thing.

Our friend in Colorado Springs will get fair treatment.

Scott try Bridgepoint in New Mexico , The One in Kansas City ,Ks St Louis Mo, just to name a few.

I think our friend would do better buying from masterblend, The machine is much simpler to use and repair than anything Bridgepoint sells, I dont see why a guy has to be tied to a distributor for life.

    Price is right...

The price sounds good, but I need to get a newer van and I need to buy local because I don't really know what I'm looking at.

    local vans

I hooked up with some friends of friends that buy vans at the auction and was going to go that route, but Rick @ Interlink said moving equipment between vans would run $900 - $1500. I think I'd rather wait for the right package and get $900 - $1500 worth of better setup.

    sounds great

I would appreciate any helpful info, for sure. You can email me at jparsons@barkleyscleanup.com.

I'm taking an entry carpet class next week and will be getting further training as classes are available. Odor treatment is definitely a priority for my customers, so that is on my training list too.

This is a great forum - I appreciate all the input! :hi:

Rick at interlink is screwing you. It should not cost more than 300 or 400 dollars. Thats what you get dealing with a big brand. Contact Joe 719-360-0360

I was asked to never come back to my distributor's shop. They could not fix my new unit and blamed it on me. I am not anti-distributor but that one hurt, lol.

Call me anytime for advice Jeff.

Wow! I wish I could get $1500 for a swap!

But to be fair, Interlink maybe factoring in one of those $400 fuel kits. I would charge a customer about $500 in labor plus materials and a fuel kit (if it needed a new one), so I could see my bill creeping up towards $1,000 as a worst case scenario.
