I'm starting back in the business after a 25 year absence. My first job is actually going to be on a oil/grease stain I made while working on my brand new used truck. Can anyone tell me what the best way to clean this is. I am going to the Connections convention in Vegas and planning on getting a new portable. So this stain will have been sitting there for a good month. Also if you have any suggestions on a good portable I'm all ears. Thanks in advance for the help. Johnny
It was not clear from your post. Is this a stain on carpet or on tile or cement or what surface? If it is on carpet, here is a link to a spotting guide on our Cleanwiki website. Just open the spotting section and then find "grease." http://cleanwiki.com/technical-resources/
Blot with POG till grease is gone, don't over wet as it can cause delamination, then blot/rinse out POG with liquid dry cleaner to remove POG residue. Should come out pretty easy. You could probably use a citrus solvent/gel spotter and HWE it as well but since you don't yet have an extractor option A will work well for you. Good Luck!
Thank you very much matt7. I should have an extractor in a couple a weeks but till then I think I'll try the POG. One more question......what is POG? Thanks.
POG is paint, oil & grease remover. It is also known as PIG Paint, Ink and Grease Remover. Usually a blend of non-volatile solvents. The non-volatile solvents do not evaporate easily. So they stay on the spot and keep working. However, they usually need to be rinsed with a volatile solvent and then water or rinsed with very hot water. Some non-volatile solvents come in the form of a gel that stays on top of the carpet instead of running down into the backing. This is less likely to cause damage to the adhesives that hold the carpet together. Try Bridgepoint's PIG or Gel Break if you prefer a gel. There is also one called OINK (Oil & Ink) remover that works well and is very easy to rinse out.
thanks again. I don't remember there being so many different chemicals when I was cleaning carpets in the 70's and 80's. Back then we sometimes just used Cascade dishwasher detergent in our machines. Things sure have changed.
