    I am having a little trouble with deorodorizer mixtures. Is it sprayed before the cleaning or after or is it better to mix in with finial rinse? I use the powerburst pre spray can or should i mix with that? Thank you for your help

    Sadly 99% of all deodorisers in our industry leave residue. So never post spray because carpets will resoil quickly if you do. Rather if you decide to do so,mist in non-trafficked areas to leave a little fresh smell.

    Do not mix it in your prespray. This will have a negative effect on your PH. So both cleaning and deodorising will be reduced. However you can mix in your prespray a little H2o2 (4-6 oz peroxide) to offset urine and other odors. But this will not leave a fresh smell. Here are 3 ways to accomplish your goal;

    1) It is best to locate urine or other urine causes and pre-treat them first. Then prespray w/a little H2o2 in yout prespray mix. Follow up with an undiluted spray of H2o2 to eliminate any color/odor of organic stains as it leaves no residue. Then mist lightly in un-trafficked areas a mild deodoriser.
    2) For a fresh smell throughout pre-treat non-trafficked areas with a nice deodoriser and then prespray/clean as normal. Mist a little on afterwards on the non-trafficked areas if needed.
    3) ALWAYS check with customer to see if they like the smell and are not allergic to odors/deodorisers or you may open yourself to litigation.

    Rob is correct that many deodorizers leave a residue, but I don't think it is as much as 99%. Most fragrances contain an essential oil that produces the fragrance. This oil can leave a residue that will attract soil. In very small amounts, a fragrance is so diluted that the resideu may be undetectable without special equipment. So, resoiling is sometimes an issue but not always.

    Some deodorizers do not contain an added fragrance. For example Hydrocide does not a an oil based fragrance, just the fragrance of the ingredients. It is meant to get rid of odors by absorbing them, rather than adding a fragrance or covering up a bad odor.

    Other types of deodorizers may or may not have an added fragrance. For example Bio-Modifier is a bio enzyme for digesting urine. For those that prefer a similar product without any fragrance, we also make Bio-Charge with no added fragrance. You can use without fragrance or add one that you and your customers like.

    The real key to watch for resoilsing is how strong the fragrance is because more fragrance usually means more oils.

    As to when and how to use a deodorizer, that depends upon the situation you are trying to correct. Different odors are treated in different ways.

    The first key to deodorization is to remove the source of the odor, usually this means cleaning.

    I will be glad to share my manual on pet odor deodorization with anyone who sends me an email and asks for it. - Scottw@bridgewatercorp.net
