here is a couple of tips to help you maintain your equipment. check the oil every day before you leave for your first job. and try to park in the same place aswell...so you have a true idea of any oil use or oil related problems...this is what is known as an oil consumption test...and as simple as it sounds could save you a lot of trouble if you do it. next...follow the rule of thumb that one hour of operation equals 60 miles per hour in milage comparable to your car...(slide ins only) in other words oil changes at 50 hours times 60 miles per hour...is 3000 miles...get the idea? change the filter and the oil...same as you do your car... wipe the dang thing down every day when you are done using the machine...this will ensure that you find problems before they actually have a chance to shut you down...because if you are wiping the machine down...you are also seeing loose nots ...bolts...or leaks before you have problems...becuase you actually are looking over the machine as you wipe it off. and lastly...and most important...is how you answer the following question..... if your machine was an airplane...would you dare fly in it? if you cant answer yes to that question...you are doing it wrong.
i like to check my oil at the end of the day, just in case i need to add some, or do any maintenance it dosent make me late to my first job
All great points. In addition to checking fluids daily I actually schedule the first monday of every month as "maintenance monday" where I book no jobs for the day and spend time on taking care of my equipment. I change the oil in both van and truckmount, lube blower, check oil in pump & blower, check the belts and hoses, descale the machine, clean the inside of the van, polish tools and do any other repairs and preventive maintenance I see may be needed. I started setting aside 1 day per month because it is easy to forget and postpone doing it otherwise. Take care of your equipment and it will take care of you for years to come.
