Hey guys, this is what I have Kohler command 22 It was running fine and then it died in the middle of the job, tried to start and backfire! Replaced plugs, checked for fuel(which it is getting) checked for spark(getting spark) I dont have a compression tester but it seems that the compression is fine, unplugged sensors. Still wont start! this is on a bridgepoint lancer Any help or ideas would be appreciated Thanks!
That sounds like a problem I had, I just changed the spark plug and it started right up with no problems.
were you getting spark on both cylinders? i believe there is two separate coils, one for each cyl. make sure you are getting good spark to both cylinders. a bad/weak coil on one side can make it backfire and not run. if you are getting good spark, are you sure you have good fuel pressure? that could also cause it to backfire and not run. would it start with the choke on, indicating poor fuel delivery, maybe a vacuum leak in the intake or a plugged fuel jet in the carb. give us more details on what you have tried. if your sure your spark is strong and you have good fuel delivery then get a compression tester at kragenor outazone and check that. let us know. --Kevin--
Shut off for waste tank may need replacing... Run a wire from the two contact points to see if it will start.
Ok well here is the latest, Machine now starts after changing coils and sam module. The problem I am now having is that anytime I put a load on the machine it dies a slow horrible death. It will however start right back up but continues to die when a load is placed on it. Any new suggestions
don't know if your kohler has this, but on my briggs there is a kill wire that runs to both coils and a diode to seperate them. my diode got shorted out when i wired it and it would idle ok but sputter and backfire with a load on it and die. when the diode got shorted it linked the 2 coils to each other causing both coils to fire each time one was supposed to fire causing really bad timing. it may be a long shot but easy to test. to check this you can simply disconnect the the kill (ground) wire from the coils and start it back up. you will know right away if this was the problem, just remember it may not shut off with the key so prepare for a way to kill it. if it has a fuel shut off it will die a while after you turn the key off. --Kevin--
