I have a Chemspec 860. It has been overheating and shutting down quite a bit recently. I believe it is the heat sensors. It was purchased used and I'm not sure what the maintance was like before me but I try to do what I know needs to be done ... lol...close to "by the book". Anyway, how do I determine exactly what sensor to purchase/change? I dont have a problem changeing them all (180/240/285 kill). But I've seen several online and am not sure which to purchase. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Are they all basically the same except the thread size? Are they proprititary? Thanks, Mark
Hi Mark, I have not worked on many ChemSpec units so I dont know how much help I can be, but I will try. The switches are probably NOT of ChemSpec manufacture. If you remove them you may still be able to make out manufacturers name and then you can go about finding replacements. You can test the switches if you have a test light. I would run the unit and watch them temp build until it reached about 180 on the low setting, then put your test light on the the wire that goes to the dump solenoid and see if the light lights up. This will tell you if the switch is sending a signal to the sol. telling it to open. If it lights up then you may want to check the sol. next and see if it needs to be cleaned or replaced. Also, one side of the switch should always have power and the other side will only have power when it reaches temp. Another very general test is to take the hose off of the sol. that goes to the waste and let the machine get to about 180 and see if the solenoid is passing water through when it reaches temperature. But this doesnt tell you if it is the sol. or the switch(es) causing the problem. You can test the 240 switch in the same manner. And obviously the 285 kill switch is working if your machine is shutting down. Also, have you de-scaled the unit lately? The probes on the switches could be covered with scale/solution deposits and reading the temperature of the water inaccurately. I hope I did not confuse you; let me know if I need to clarify it. Chirs
Thanks Chris. I do appreciate the help. I have descaled the machine just about a month ago. I will give it a try. Thanks again, Mark
Mark. These machines are very similar to prochem units. Check the water flow. The sensors may be bad ,but not likly. the water recirculates throuhg the system, it may not be recirculating , there is a sensor in or near a water box that may not be sending a siganl for the water to go to dump tank, also there couls be a solenoid or mechanicle thermal releif valve failiure. Post some pics would help of the wast tank ,fresh tank and water resiovoir /hopper/water box/mixtank. give me a call. 940-642-2503 would be glad ot help you.
Thanks Nick, I will be taking a closer look at it this week. I may be taking you up on that call. Mark
I can deal with that , the other weepy whiny stuff we have had to deal with lately was nauseating . Sniff , Sniff , we'll miss you guys that never really wanted to be here anyway.
lol, not yet, i havent had the time. I did conclude it is the 240 temp sensor. It's next on the list.....lol
I finally got around to pullin out the temp switches and was able to track down the model numbers. I found a place on-line that has them for 45.00 each. So I went and ordered them. I will let you know if this fixes it for me. When they get here. Mark
