I bought a "dyson Animal" about 2 months ago, and have been totally impressed with the amount of dry particulate soil I am removing. Even after the carpet was "just vacummed" by the homeowner. It is WELL worth the $$

I use a PV12 I've not done any direct comparison s with any other vacs, so I can't say how it performs against some others. I have been pleased with the performance and get a lot of comments from customers about how quiet it is. Besides I think as a professional we shouldn't go in to someones home with a piece of equipment they can go out to a retailer and buy. IMO

I 've used Dyson dc-07 for 4 years. They are the best...easy to dump, very sturdy and the customer always gets impressed with what you pick up as they can see it.

Trick is to buy them refurbished for abour $275...the one refurbished I bouigh has lasted 4 years now....being beaten every day.

Sanitare here too. I put a magnet strip on the front to catch screws and nails.

For a truckmount? How about an air driven head, like the rug rat, and the larger version? You may want to consider a dust downer if you go that way. thats what I use on the road and it saves a lot of room, and saves a lot of broken vacuum cleaners from clunking around in the van gettin in the way. Or you can get the ol' standup unit and replace each one as they fall apart.

I look at so many ads for vacuums in supply magazines and find they are no different from what you can buy at a department store. Unless you want to pay $1000 or more for one. And hepa this and hepa that! All they talk about for any of them is the fantastic air filtration! Well Pooh I say! I want to suck up debris before I steamclean. As long as the room doesnt fill with dust when I do that I'm good! And as for your hepa hepa hepa, well let me tell you something sonny! We buy your fancy hepa bagged vacuum and three months later we need bags for them again, and guess what! You dont make them anymore! And you cant get the bags or the precious Hepa filters for them so your'e not pulling the wool over my eyes! I'll stick to my bagless and use scissors and shop vac filters to keep me goin. I'll stick to my 300 dollar standup vacuum from the department store and make my own filters (because guess what? You cant get the hepa filters for them anymore after only a year)

I have a TurboCat Zoom, Air powered powerhead. The thing is awesome. I can only use it at idle though, but still, that is far above the vac power of any other vacuum out there. The power head and wand cost me all of $100. But if you do go this way, you HAVE to use a dust downer.

I have a Dyson Animal, and the TurboCat, with my truckmount, leaves it in the dust. Well worth a $100 investment. I still carry my old upright vac just in case, but never use it.

If you want to try out a TurboCat, check with your local vacuum dealer and see what you think. If you're good with words you can probably walk out with one really cheap...... I asked the manager of the store for some business cards and told him that if a customer asked me any questions about vacuums, which is pretty much every day, I would refer them to him. He called me at the end of the month and said that he made over $3,000 in sales with people that said I gave them his number. Needless to say he is now handing out my cards and putting some of my coupons in his mailings.

If you are going to buy a general consumer type. Check consumer reports. I can't remember the model but they rank a Kenmore higher than many of the other popular uprights. It usually sells for $349. It was on sale last week for $249. Nick has a great idea to visit a vac store to get a good deal by referring them biz.

I bought a Riccar and it works good but I got a commercial Oreck that came with my van. I decided to start using the Oreck until it wears out. Gave the Riccar to my wife and now I really like the Oreck. It's very light and seems to pick up a lot.

I have always heard horrible things about Oreck but so far it's been doing good for me even though it looks flimsy.

I still prefer the Hoover Conquest. 18" for vacants and commercial and 14" for residential. they are a bulldozer of a vacuum, vac up nails and crap and keeps on running. They are one of the few vacs that can run down the baseboard and get 95% of the crap so no need to use a crevice tool. They also have a cleanout port that catches most of the trash. Do not get the dust cup (they leak) get the cloth bag and paper bags inserts. after 2 years of running every day the inside of the cloth bag is still clean. No dust re-enters the home with the Anti-allergen bags. We also have a Dyson and these babys out clean it every day, they are the workhorses of our industry.

I heard Consumer reports rated the Dyson 14 better than the 7. It seems to me a bagless is more theater because it is easier to show the customer the debri

I find that debatable. I've been using the same turbocat zoom and as long as you arent doing TOO much vacuuming or if there is excessive dust, like drywall dust or sawdust in heavy quantities, then you can get away with small quick vacuum jobs without the dust downer. I've been doing it this way for several years now and never a problem with the blower. I start cleaning wet right away after vacuuming and the blower gets cleaned out properly, plus it gets a nice lube at the end of the night.
