On my performer 405 I noticed a small coolant leak coming from the bottom radiator hose..

I've replaced coolant hoses on cars but these just won't come off?? They have some steel threading in them that when tightened with a hose clamp won't come off even with the hose clamp removed! I finally had to rip one apart just to get it off the radiator but now I'm faced with the daunting task of removing the other end and putting a new one on!

Try spraying some PB Blaster around the lip where it goes over the fitting, tapping lightly with hammer around the perimeter, the twisting back and forth. Repeat as neccessary. A good pair of channel locks will help you get a better grip around the hose/fitting part of the equation. You need to apply torque to the part of the hose that is around the fitting, not the empty part of the hose above it.

PB Blaster is a miracle product.

The reinforced hoses can be tough! Nice photo to share with us. By the way, just below the Y where the hoses are is your govenor, make sure that has fluid in it, those don't come cheap!! Not sure what oil it takes, I just can't remember. spotman

Johnny- I know this has nothing to do with the government posts but from what I have been reading from you it sounds like you should think about taking your TM in to someone that services the equipment you have. I dont mean this in a bad way but you bought it used and know nothing about it, now you are having problems with just about everything. I would take it in and have it check out, maybe you bought someone elses problems. Once they get it working the way it should have them go over it with you step by step to make sure you know how it operates, once you start taking parts off that you dont know what they are for it might never work the way it should. Not being rude just being honest.

Hey, I have that same exact pick! :) I would still go with my angle grinder cutting wheel. Makes quick work of a PITA. Then put my 3m sanding disks and clean the crud off that Y pipe. The hard part on that job is putting it back on because those hoses dont bend all that well. See that little hose coming from the radiator outlet to the left? That hose should slide over the Y fitting as far until it clears the radiator outlet. Then slide it back over the radiator outlet. Kind of like a shotgun pump action. :bigsmiley: You may need silicone so it slides. That union assembly is a bear to put back on. Or you can try pushing the y fitting into the right side hose so the left side goes over the radiatior outlet. But then you will have to loosen the right side.
