We have no local distributors. The closest one is 900 miles away. You learn to fix your own units..........fast.

For those that do have a local distributor and are not as gifted mechanically as Jim, I love the programs that include free monthly maintencnace and check-ups with the lease/sale of a truckmount.

Our closest distributor was 90 miles away when I was cleaning. The distributor for the truckmount I had was even further, about 130 miles. We learned to do some of our own repair and spent a lot of time on the phone with the repair techs at our distributors. Thansk guys!

We do most any repair our selves or we have our own mechanic (actually by Best Friend) do the repairs normally for the Truck Mount. As for the Truck we now use a Fuso dealer for maintenance & repairs just because of the type of truck it is. Our new truck is very easy to repair in reality so far.

Our old Slide in was some times easy & other times required complete removal just to work on tis is the reason I bought a Engine Hoist. I did have local distributors do some Maintenance stuff & warranty work on this truck but my local distributors had very high turn overs in techs so I didn't trust them very much.

Also me being able to work on our truck has prevented us from inconveniencing the client in the past

    Scott,

I have one of the lease/maintenance deals you spoke of, and at first it was good. Latley, though I've been doing it myself unless I'm unsure about it. The last couple of times I went to my distributor for repairs I'm not sure the mechanic even tried to fix my problem. Last time I went I had a leaking unloader. He did the regular maintenace, I think, and said he tightened up a loose hose and the leak was fixed. Went to a large job that night and it was worse than ever. I've totally lost faith in my distributor and think I may be done with them. This isn't the first time it's happened to me there. I'll just fix it myself from now on. Saves time and money.

My distributor is about 45 miles away and with our great traffic in Salt Lake City, It can be 1 1/2 hours each way on a good day. I try to do my own maintenance on my truckmount, but if it something that I can not fix I will take it down Interlink and have them take care of it. I have always had a great experience when I visit them and they are always willing to go the extra step.

    Never.
Between myself and a very clever motor mechanic we do most ourselves. Before he took over modifying my CDS, i would travel once a year to have my machine completely checked out and serviced. A trip of around 3000 klm round trip.

Same here, distributors are too far away for any maintenance that isnt serious. As a TM owner you have to pretty much learn and do it yourself, or get buddies with a local mechanic who might be able to help out on bigger stuff. That way would be faster, easier and a heck of a lot cheaper than using a distributor who knows how to install new ones, but maybe not so up on fixing the old ones.
