I have a Command Pro 25hp that after 1 to 1.5hrs it starts to sputter and then shuts off. In most cases I can pump the bulb going to the fuel pump and it starts running fine. Then later it may do it again. There was a problem with the fuel filter letting air get in and that has been fixed.
Joseph; It is a fuel delivery problem. Make sure you have a vent in the fuel tank, and that the tank is too far below the engine. If all that checks out, then the Kohler pump diaphram is probably weak. Larry
get one of the electric fuel pumps from interlink. I think its a kyosan ?? just going from memory. also check you cooling fan shrouds may be a lil plugged up. then overheats, burns the oil and then it gets costly.. I had a near miss today with this issue. good thing I caught it. and use Royal Purple oil. it acted like it was starving for fuel. so when it shut down I primmed it and of course it cooled down and fired right up. But now I need to figure out why the bugger wont keep the burners going on the ht2 thermo coupler my best guess. but damm even with cold water I got 2 hour dry times today. I RULE! lol
I have had that happen to me too. Only on really hot days. Vapor lock is what I was told the issue was.
I've had this happen. It turned out to be the magnito. By the time I messed with the fuel supply, for awhile, the darn thing would work again. Making me think it was the fuel supply. When it shuts down, make sure you have spark to the plugs. Check right away each time it shuts down. For by the time you fool around with things to get it ckecked, it could be working again. You need to catch it not making a spark to know.
I started opening the gas cap and it has worked just fine every time! Thanks for the insight! I am not going to put in a vent b/c the auto maker has it as a sealed system and I feel I better keep it that way.
Just one more added note here. The opening of the Cap works and when I forget the engines Shuts down after about 1 to 2 hours. I think the difference in time is directly related to the amount of fuel in the tank and hence the amount of air that a vacuum is being pulled on. Ps. Thanks Larry for the Info!
Just because its a sealed system does not mean its a "sealed" system. With a sealed system gas tank, the vent line goes to the charcoal canister. Rather than venting out the cap, its vents to the canister. You can do one of two things. Find the plug in the line to the canister or buy a new gas cap with a vent on it. Question- Do you ever hear pressure releasing when you open the cap?
