has anyone cleaned this type of rug before

    Yes. Tufted construction, with what looks like long shag tufts of rolled cotton, which are often mixed with tufts of wool, wool felt, linen, jute, etc... I've cleaned these with pile lengths of 12-18"! I got enough coins out of the last one to buy a Starbucks, lol. These can be inexpensive or custom-made, costing $50+/SF.
    To get the best results, you really should sub it to a plant cleaner with a good dusting method & a centrifuge, then mark up the invoice. IF the colors are fast and you want to DIY (which I don't recommend), Rug Badger it, flood it, and water claw it on a nice sunny day, and dry outdoors upside-down or on a Rug Rack. Wand extraction and agitation/grooming can distort the tufts, so be careful.

    Thats an interesting rug you got there. Honestly I cant say I have ever cleaned one like that. But if I were to do it I would probably clean it like Nathan suggested.
