I took some rugs in that are covered in dog hair like I have never seen. It doesn't seem to want to come off. Vacuuming and dusting help but not enough. She has 5 long hair dogs. Anyone have any ideas for short cuts to getting the hair off these rugs?

A good upright vac can do wonders. Of coarse sometimes it is woven in pretty good.

In our cleaning studio we use:

    a. A good upright vac with a stiff brush on it.
    b. a lint roller,, the type that uses the sticky tape.
    c. if all else fails, a pummice brick (a special thanks to Bryan O'Halleck of Seattle for showing me this one)

Here is a pic of the pummice brick.

Painters tape on an empty tp or paper towel roll. Reminds me of my old Cracker Jacks; had gold hash marks up to the bottom stripe on my Crow. Darned wool held on to lint, hair, dust bunnies like they were giving them away.

Sometimes you just have to tell your client that its clean hair and lint... they usually have a good chuckle and then invite their dog to come over and lie down on the rug you just de-haired!

I call it "hooking" - made it up I think. Seems like the hair "hooks" into the rug - almost like weaving itself in. Dalamtion hair seems the worst. If its not too big a lint roller. On sofas I used to put on a dishwashing glove and rub it over the area - works great. Let us know what works the best as this is a big problem. Some rugs get it really bad on the back too.

I did one today and hair hair everywhere... every corner every room. This guy had 2 German Sheppards and their hair was everywhere. He was moving out and had the Maid Service Vacuum twice. I came and still seen the hair in the plush carpet. I broke out the Kirby and vacuumed the entire house including the stairs. Big significan difference after I was done, but was able to see some dog hair everywhere, I bet one of those pile lifter could have been a better choice. Anyhow first warm day in a long time... I think we hit 81 degrees, so it was hot and I seriously worked up a sweat. Job done and even got a 25 dollar tip. What's a good way to get the dog hair up that is embedded in the carpet?

I have ran into this problem, i spent over an hour just vacuuming 2 small rugs once and then got down on my hands and knees and physically picked a lot out with my fingers, then went over it like 5 times with my little extractor and it still had hair woven in it. I just explained it to the customer but I do get the feeling that the customer thinks if it is cleaned properly everything will come out! They don't get the fact that carpet wands aren't designed to pickup clumps of dirt and hair, that is why we pre vac right?!

Simply pour 1 gal of paint thinner evenly onto it and light it on fire, allow fire to "dwell" for 2-3mins and then "rinse" with pure water. This is guaranteed to remove all traces of pet hair!

Use a dishwashing glove. You can either mist water on the rug or just dip the gloves in water and rub across the fibers. Then vacuum the rug. This also works great on furniture.

When ever I have come across lots of pet hair on carpet, I normally prespray carpet thoroughly, then use rotory machine using soft brush. All the hair will clump up together in different areas. Vacuum the clumps of hair with vac hose and start proceeding with the cleaning. I've always had the best results this way.
