I have a 2000 chevy express 2500. The gas guage does not work. When I fill it up, it shows full, then as I go some distance it acts as if it would be working but never drops below 3 quarter. What could this be.... I'm sure it is probably a common problem.

    Thanks

When my TM was mounted in my van, they ran a fuel line that went over my float in the tank, my gauge never goes below half tank, so I have to keep it full at all times.

I don't have a truckmount in it. I use it for portables. It has 62,000 miles on it and besides that it is in excellent mechanical and visual condition.

If you know what it might be, please let me know. I want to get it fixed.

More than likely your fuel pump is going out

The float is stuck. Best thing to do is have the pump replaced. Be prepared to shell out some cash for that job. You will need to put new straps on the tank also.

Thanks.... I figured it was the float! I'm gonna do it myself so
The cost of a pump shouldn't be to bad.

Just did the intake pump in my truck a few weeks ago.

If you have a friend with a motorcycle/atv jack, go borrow it. The two horizontal bars on the lift make dropping and lifting the tank so much easier.

Let me offer you some tips. Its not an overwhelming difficult job but can be a real pain if you don't know what you are doing. Like XM said try to get a motorcycle jack. I always use my regular floor jack. The job will go much much smoother if you drain all the fuel in the tank. If you don't have the special tool to remove the locking ring, you will need two people to remove the locking ring. Each person taps on the ring with a screwdriver and mallet so it can be removed because it will not come off with one person tapping. Also, one important factor is remember to put lots of non drying silicone on the electrical connection to prevent rounding and shortout. And as I stated above you should always buy new straps for the tank. They go on nice and tight with a good air ratchet.
And make sure to save all the parts until the job is complete. I remember always needing certain parts to finish because the new pumps do not come with everything. I cant remember what it is. I think it was the shim.
