I dont usually get much response to the car detailing posts, but for those that care about our
add on service, I fixed this scratch yesterday. It was fixed in about 5 minutes for a quick
20 bucks on top of the price of the full car detailing. She said her friend had a similar scratch
fixed at a body shop and they charged over $1000

I have moved on to boats now and charge $10 per foot of boat to compound and wax.
Exterior only. Price may be adjusted later on, but its a starting point.

Nice work what orbital buffer are you using and how agressive of a compund did you need to use because you say 5 minutes I would love to know what compound you are using it takes me 1/2 hour to get the silimar scratch out

I'd like to know what it takes to do that. I've got a couple of vehicles that need it and I'm scared to mess with he paint, not knowing what I'm doimg. The local places that do this charge small fortune.

The scratch picture doesn't look like a scratch at all. More like paint from somewhere else has scraped onto the side and looks like a scratch. If those were actually deep scratches you would need to sand, primer and repaint to match to achieve a fix. Am I correct here or just loopy?

A good cleaner wax, and you could hand buff that right out. If it were just paint. Always awesome to make people happy doing stuff like this.

Could have been a little bit of both. You are right the abrasion was not deep enough to be beyond repair, it did not penetrate past the clearcoat, nor was it dented. This appeared to be one of those Walmart Parking lot incidents. I used a Dual Action polisher on high speed with Meguiar's ScratchX 2.0, then
followed up with a polish and hardshell wax.

Its still a great job. My remarks weren't meant to drag down your post. I think this kind of work is a great add on to a business if you have a shop. Again nice work Richard.

Is the polish/hardshell really needed? I have a few of these paint scuffs on the driver side of my van and would love to get these things off.

    IMG's aren't working anymore Richard.
