I have this oriental, 8 x 10 wool rug with red and blue color. The owner allows the three dogs to use it as a urinal. She has me clean the rug every so often and after the initial report and pictures, i always inform her about the situation. Well I take it back to my shop and use Master Bled Dye set. after 24hrs, I submerg it in Pro Sources Rug Rescue ( or revie ) and boy does thay thing bleed. Any suggestions or comments. What is your opinion.
Does the color bleed into surrounding colors or does it simply crock off the color into the water? Since you have cleaned it before, does it bleed each time or has the repeated urine finally damaged the dye enough to start it bleeding now? Some products to reduce or prevent bleeding work by preventing the loose dye from settling into the surrounding areas, but you may still have dye in the water. That is how Bridgepoint Dye Loc works. Using Dye Loc and treating with our new Wool Medic is the best answer for many wool rugs, but pretesting is always advised.
Being that it's almost Christmas I would go and buy a gift for that customer.....a doggie door. On that rug I would offer no guarantees what so ever. They have to realize that their rug is trash by now and the value of the rug is less than $0 (meaning they would have to pay someone to take it away) I am sure the urine has a lot to do with the bleeding.
I have had 3 since opening. Frustrating but also a learning experience. I am learning rugs inside and out!
Pee = all bets are off! Most people know this but I still let them know the rug is trash (OK - don't use those exact words!). A quick explanation prior to wash as well as sign off so they understand. It is amazing what people will let animals do! I remember my first really bad one - my whole wash floor turned yellow!
What is the pH of those products? I put pros choice UPT in a hydroforce jug and flood the urine soaked areas front and back. After 30 minutes, we start flushing till the water runs clear. It is already acidic so bleeding is rare. Sometimes the dyes are already compromised and the excess comes off. Some rugs just have excess dyes period. The real bad ones, I dry face down on the floor for the first night. That way any excess dyes can dry into the back instead of the face. Cleaned a rust colored nylon a while back. It did fine with UPT, then used OSR, holy cow did it bleed! Scared me really, it truly looked as if it were bleeding blood.
