Last night we did 2000 sq ft of tile cleaning. We tried three different products to see performance differences.

Based on ease of use and of course Performance.

We used Viper Renew, Procyon tile cleaner and Eco Mist from Home Depot.

1st place goes to Procyon, although it is about 4x as expensive as eco mist.

2nd place to Eco Mist, made from corn, grass and potatoes! The stuff works!

3rd place to Viper Renew. Sticky, stinky and underperforming.

All products got the grout clean after agitation and extraction with an SX12 at 1200psi. But the Procyon got it clean sooner, closely followed by Eco mist which we watered down by 50% even though the bottle said to use it straight.

Viper took the most work and was the worst to work with. If we were doing the whole place we would of had to get mask and gloves and a whole lot of rags to wipe stuff down.

Richard, have you ever tried Shorebest 2790? I've found it out cleans anything I've used so far. Just curious how it would compare to the above products? Thanks

Never tried it and havent seen it. I'm from Canada so it may not be available here.
Even one of my suppliers was sold out of Procyon until next week, hence me going down to buy eco mist.

Supply for carpet cleaning products is slow at best up here. The boat only comes through once each spring when the glacier recedes...

Depending upon the type of soils, Viper Renew is usually not suggested for initial cleaning of grout lines. Viper Venom is easier to work with and does a better job than Renew at cutting through grease and oils which are the most common problem soils.

Renew is useful to remove a thin layer of the grout after other products have been tried and some stains still remain.

I have been reading posts and getting comments from cleaners who are looking for something better on grout. We are working on it.

What are you paying for procyon richard? Here in ottawa its 45$ a gallon from fibreclean. If you were to use straight eco mist would it still be cheaper than procyon?

Heck yeah, and I buy my procyon from the same place for the same money. What I realized on this job is that the eco mist worked almost as good as the procyon and it was around $12.00 a gallon. there are no instructions to water it down, but i did anyway and it worked "almost" as good as the procyon mixed. When I say "almost" I mean it still did a satisfactory job, but I think the procyon dug up the dirt a little better from the grout. So, technically i could use the eco straight and still be half of what the procyon costs and I dont have to pay shipping.

And to Scott, sorry but I tried Viper Venom several times in the past and was not satisfied with its performance. Yes, it can take basic dirt and oils off the surface, but does nothing for the appearance of the grout. Also it is very fumy, sticky and expensive. Not to mention not very "eco" friendly. Venom is just a high alkaline cleaner and very nasty to work with. Sorry, but it's a "thumbs down" from this critic.

If Interlink would produce a product similar to procyon, something like Prolon but for grout, i would most likely buy it since right now it seems Fibreclean is the only place in Canada you can get procyon.

Richard - You have a box heading your way of products to test for area and Oriental rugs. Thanks for being one of our new product testers. We have to take the bad reports with the good. Thanks.

We do listen. You and other cleaners tell us they want a powdered product that will not only remove the oil and grease but make the grout lines look better. Tat is what we are working on and testing here in our labs right now. I will send you some when we are ready for field testing.
