Anyone do duct cleaning on this forum and be willing to give me some good advice ASAP or within the next few hours? Thanks,
Aweosme, thank you. Alright I have multiple apartment complexes that want the dryer vents from the outside cleaned out because of a fire hazard. The woman who is looking at having this done has two or three bids other than mine. The vents are 10 feet off the ground so I would need a ladder and six of them are 12 feet off the ground. I would need to either take the lid off the outside vent which would be unscrewing four philips head screws or taking about 30 seconds and taking off four small 4 inch by six inch vents to access duct hole. All they want is a line stuck down in the duct and something swirling around to gather enough of the lint to not cause a fire. What type of price range would I be looking at and Interlink sells a small portable duct cleaning machine so would this be a option for me? Thank you
are the dryer vents metal or flex tube? how many units are you bidding on? will you be using your truckmount vacuum to pull lint out? any idea how long the vent run would be? if they are short runs it is a pretty simple operation. if the vents are metal you can be pretty agressive with some kind of whip or brush but if they are the flex tube you have to be careful.
They are flex tube. There would be 60 total units. I could use my tm to pull the lint out. They did say something about some sort of whip to clean the vents. The vent runs woud be just from the outside as far in as I could go which would be 10 feet to 15 feet.
imo. if you are not going to get into the duct cleaning business as an add on; i would buy a duct whip from (pvt contracting--i will look for their number). it is a 10-15' hard plastic with a rubber whip on the end of it. you can simply hook it to an air hose with a compressor and the whip will bounce around and knock any lint lose while you are sucking it out with truck mount. cost is pretty difficult for me because everyone in my area is hurting so badly. it also depends on how many times you would have to move and set up. i would come up with an hourly price you feel comfortable with and add a set up fee. depending on how fast you feel like moving that day you should be able to get through 60 fairly quick.
this particular complex has said somewhere btw 30 and 60 dollars per apartment for a cost. Does this sound reasonable
excellent. If you could by chance get that number for me for the whip from pvt contracting that would be great. Thank you for all your info I really appreciate it.
hope it helped and good luck. i think you will be surprised how easy it will be to do. i have to run out for an hour but i will get you the contact info. when i get back
A duct cleaner I know says he does the dryer vents for $39 each if he is already on site doing the duct cleaning. Dryer vent as a stand alone is $99. But I am sure there would be a discount formultiple units in the same building. I also agree with DAK that you should not buy the duct cleaning system for one job. However, the Ram Air duct cleaning system plus some accessories and an air compressor can put you in the duct cleaning business for under $2,000. That includes a lot of excellent market materials, even a video donut that can be used on TV or on a monitor in a home show booth and so froth.
Heck yeah, me too. I have done literally thousand over my 10 years of duct cleaning....which was how I eventually got into duct cleaning. $30 is actually a good price.
I get an average of $85.00 for one dryer vent or $70 each if I am doing more than six at one location but that includes taking the dryer half apart and cleaning it out too - takes about 45 minutes to an hour each but I can cut that time almost in half with a good helper. I would much rather clean out just the vent because it's fast and easy once you get the hang of it. I would gladly clean out vents-only all day long for $30 each. Just make sure you are easy going so you don't dislodge any connection. They can be a pill to reconnect if they aren't easy to get to. If they are using the old white accordian style vent it will probably be brittle; be very gentle. I think you would be smart to spend a small amount of time and familiarize yourself with any local codes regarding dryer vent installation (just ask your local building inspector). With the number you're talking about, you will probably do a few quick repairs. Don't let that scare you off, it's not complicated.
the last time i ordered something from them was in 2007 so i hope they are still in business. at that time they had facilities in palm coast, fl and murfreesboro tn 866-312-2634
excellent. Now I need to buy a whip and this guy on Ebay out of Mansfield, tx sells this whip system for $124 or so. Any idea if this is a good buy. Here is the link to the site. Thoughts? http://cgi.ebay.com/dryer-vent-clea...50424397881QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item3a4e751039
