Fabric softner and a good groomer works for me. However I explain to them that the jute back will make it still somewhat noticable. However over time it might rebound!

Like most other situations in carpet cleaning, steam it out with your truck mount. I over-wet all the dents before cleaning, almost to the point of saturation. Then when cleaning back over them they pop out. This works most of the time, but not so much on most berbers or anything with polyester in it.

I have seen a tool to actually lift some dents out, but what is it called and where can you find one?

For the most part , once the padding / backing is crushed , it aint coming back . You can wet it , rake it , and put the vac directly on it , but 99 percent of the time if it was a heavy piece its permanent .

I would recommend a slider to new customers because it helps in redistributing the weight and the next time you clean you dont have to tab it and it makes moving the furniture very easy - I keep boxes on the truck - easy upsell.

I have done this with an area rug and it came out very good, tried the ice cube trick for a while didn't seem to work and then used a BlackNDecker steamer on the dent and brushed it came out allot better than I thought it would.

    getting "dents" out of carpet

I found good HOT water work well most of the time.. If the client has moved furniture I let them know not all indentions will be removed and that is not something I try to do.. If they come out they come out if not then not..

We get paid to make the carpet clean and for the most part they come out with regular cleaning.

again it depends on the carpet type, nylon responds well, others not so well..

wool carpet because of is absorbent to moisture (30%) you can just spray water on the dent and it will lift in 24 hours with out a need of steam cleaning. nylon is a bit harder it absorbers only 7% moisture that way make it is harder to remove furniture marks out. polyprop is the hardest. absorbers only 1% moisture so hard to make is stand again the water makes the fiber expend and the more absorbent it is the essayer to make the fiber stand again

It depends on the type of underlayment used, and the type of fiber used to make the carpet on how well the crushed impressions will be removed..

We are full serviced, There has been times when I have had to folded back the carpet, replaced the crushed underlayment and restretched the carpets. I have just made a split, replaced the pad and sewed it up. Some clients are really anal about someone elses furniture indentations in their just purchased home others never see them.

Keith, you must work on really expensive custom made or really old carpets to find jute backed ones. The mills quit using it in everyday manufacturing years ago. I believe the proper terminology for a dent would be the carpet is showing the crushed underlayment through its stretched secondary and primary backings.

Uh...If that's the proper terminology then I'm very frightened. Try telling that to Suzy Homeowner.

    This isn't rocket science folks!

If the dent is really just in the carpet (face yarns) then steam and a groomer will lift it out.

JAmes correctly pointed out that often the backing is damaged or the cushion (pad) under the carpet has a matching dent. If there is nothing to support the carpet, The dent will soon return.

Sliders are a great way to prevent the dents. Once made, replacing the cushion or a carpet repair may be the only permanent solutions.

I do, funny they seem to understand why it might still be there after normal cleaning. Then we go to phase 2 on correcting if they want. Just more of the service we offer.

If the dent was caused by an object of furniture like a table or sideboard that is not moved, the dent may come out after cleaning or in time.
If however the dent was from the wheels on a bed or a chair, the chances diminish of getting it out.
The reason being is each time you sit in the chair or get out of it the wheels are moving slightly on the fiber eventually breaking it down. The same for the wheels under the bed, with movement the damage become permanent.

    Yep.

When I cleaned, if removing dents was a point of focus with the customer, I would patch them out- including the pad underneath.

    Works 100% of the time.

The agitation of the RV 360 gets about 90% of those dents out.
