How does putting powdered defoamer down before extraction affect the stain resistance of nylon carpet? Has anyone tried the interlink defoamer that you can add to your pre spray?

Powder defoamers may or may not contain silicone. The silicone is the reason that a defoamer might interfere with the stain resist performance of a carpet. This will only happen once the powder is dissolved. So, if the powder is applied to dry carpet or relatively dry carpet, it may not dissolve until the rinse step. If it dissolves while it is being whisked down the vacuum hose, it won't harm the carpet.

In some cases, powder defoamers with silicone could dissolve on the carpet and that would effect the stain resistance somewhat.

Foam Defense is the defoamer that can be added to prespray or be sprayed on after prespay. It will not decrease the effectiveness of your prespray.

Most carpet presprays should not be so foamy that they need a defoamer added on a regular basis. Simply add the defoamer if there is a situation from something already in the carpet that causes foaming. Presprays for tile & grout are more foamy. Those jobs may benefit from using a defoamer that can be added to the prespray.
