Hi All, I Accidentally spilled upholstery cleaning solution on a wool area rug. I hurried to extract the solution then I applied a wool cleaning solution on the entire rug to clean it. I did however notice a large darker spot where the upholstery spill happened!!! It dried darker. My question is, how do I resolve this issue? Can I resolve this?? Please help me with your knowledge!!! Thanks Tom
Sounds Like cellulosic browning and or over wetting Test PH of rug and Spot with test Strips Correct by using a Browining Treatment or Citric Acid for Brown out and Over wetting and Rinse with a acid base Textile Rinse Rug Should have been pre tested and Dusted and cleaned using a shampoo submersion cleaning method Not with a high heat or Wand Cleaning HWE Rug Will need to be re cleaned using this Method and Dryed to correct
A little more detail about what upholstery cleaning solution was spilled would be helpful. They vary considerably in alkalinity and that can affect the wool. My first attempts would be to correct with an acid side product like Fab Set or Citric acid powder in warm water. Then dry thoroughly. If that does not work, I would be looking for an in-plant rug cleaner who can clean the wool rug properly and correct the dark area.
I have used a peroxide based encap cleaner called Hydrox by Realsit to clean several wool area rugs, it really brights up the colors very nice. If you mix it 20 oz per gallon I believe that should correct the browning problem, if not I have used it as strong as 1:1 for tough stains and blot with white towels. I use a CRB machine, actually a HOST machine to brush it in, dry it, then vac thoroghly.
