Don't forget the emotional discomfort your going to run into while your there. Its not all crime either, you'll start getting the biohazardous cleanup calls too.

Its not for everyone.....never again, and as Forrest would say, "thats all I got to say bout that"!

The gentleman's name escapes me right now, but I think the company is American Biohazard Recovery. He does trauma scene and crime scene clean-up. He also teaches the subject.

HE has provided several technical bulletins on the topic for SCRT members. You can get these if you are a member of SCRT. You can also sign up for his classes.

Our locale was too small to have a company dedicated to crime scene clean-up, so we got most of the calls for crime and trauma scenes. Did dozens over the years.

Hey Rob, It's real good money. Insurance companies will pay to clean bloody motor vehicle accident cars while at a body shop and they pay well. It's not going to be something you will get every day, but when you get the call, BIG MONEY!!!!!. You will need bio-hazard training for sure. Good luck

There is a ton of training to do and depending on where you live you better not get caught without the BBP certification and HAZMAT certification. I think I spent just over $10K X 2 to get me and my partner trained and certified on all the different types of CTS - Decon. One bit of advice, never cut corners with your training, vacs or tools as it will come back and bite you in the butt. Once you are fully trained then the real hard work comes and that is getting the people to call you first....which is the real trick.

I'd like to also mention that if you are ONLY in it for the money you will never last and thank goodness for great companies that do it right. One mistake and your personal name will be ruined forever.

    Sam,

In addition to the money, why do you choose to be involved?

Without sounding like a prude the CTS business doesn't operate anything like any other business i've ever heard of. These aren't customers like you think of customers. I spent a ton of money to learn a different way to do business and I can't just give the information away. I will say to think WAY ouside the box.

I get involved to really help people. Our prices range dramatically because this is the type of job that must be done and you wouldn't want your mom to be cleaning up after your father, brother or whomever if this happened in her house. We charge appropriately when we must but we also give away services when we need to as well. Stay small and take plenty of time to reflect when you are in this line of business. I've been called to many jobs where the "new" business on site had some manly man hurling up his guts and/or crying....no joke. It's not something you can always stomach. I've called in help on occasions.

I will say that some of these CTS jobs are a pain and involves really deep detail. Another company and I worked on a job for 6 weeks before we were finished and I was so sick of seeing that house toward the end. The payday was enough to make it worth every hour suited up and then some. Don't forget how legally and morally responsible you become once you agree to do the job. These people don't want to hear excuses and believe me you can't afford to make even one. Very profitable and rewarding if you have the knowledged and stomach.

One quick note: I took my wife out on an easy job just so she could see if she wanted to do it. She was looking forward to it....for about 10 minutes on site. She stayed by the window looking in on me with the window open. When I started to pull the carpet up (I couldn't smell) I started hearing these gagging sounds. She quickly disappeared and told me later she never smelled anything like that in her life. Like I said...it was an quick and easy job.
She's even more appreciative when I come home from one of these jobs now.

    Sharp,
Is there a way to identify which training programs are best?
