:AddEmoticons04259: So as you all know by now. I have a Dodge Ram diesel, dullie, 4x4 1 ton, that I've been using as my work truck. I love my truck and have been thinking about taking the bed off and replacing it with a used box from either a Uhaul truck or wherever one gets boxes fro trucks from. Has anyone here have any experience or knowledge of this type of swap? I've seen Ford pick ups that Uhaul installed boxes on and thought maybe I could get one of them on the cheap and bolt it on my Dodge. For some reason I think Matt7 may be the guy with the answers on this. But I'm all ears to anyone else. Thank you, Johnny

Here's the truck in case you want to see it. I need to do this swap soon as my Christmas colored theme will be out of season soon.:-D

There is a place in Las Vegas that does custom truck beds, and I bet they do boxes too. I will go over there on monday and check it out and get any info I can for you. That's a great idea, I have been wanting to get a second van and I do have a pickup truck sitting outside, I might look into doing that too.

Todd, Thanks but I don't want you to go out of your way like that. Besides, I'm looking for a used box. A bet a new one costs a ton of money.

I had the tallest ARE cap put on my Ranger. It did the job until I bought a van. It was tall enough to stand a clarke 175 in the back. If you get the compartments on the side (I didn't) it would be a handy place for spotters and estimating gear. It was about $1300 for the Ranger and I can take it off if I want and have a normal truck.

It dosen't do much for gas mileage though!

If you like the truck so much, why do you want to make it look and drive weird? If I were you, which I'm doing right now anyway, is get a used 6X12 or 7X12, (depending on how much equipment you have) and pull it. The benefit would be way better than putting some huge box on the back. I love pulling a trailer. I can disconnect when I need to go somewhere besides cleaning carpet. Just my thought, everybody has a different story. Take care

Pulling a trailer is an option I've been seriously thinking about. In Los Angeles, I'm not sure it's a good option though. Lots of traffic and parking it will be the main problem. When I move back to my house in Washington state though it'll be a piece of cake. In the mean time I'm checking into all my options.

for the kind of money you are looking at spending, you might be better off with buying a van? I've lived in your area and driving anything sucks there! I could't imagine pulling a trailer in the south bay area.

Now I know, that you know, what I'm going through over here. I'm going to put in a shelving system like Matt7 suggested on my truck this week.

That is why the box on my truck was so appealing.

I have been told that the wheel base on a dually pickup is wider and higher then the wheel base on a factory box truck/van set up. You may be surprised when looking around at how complex it can be. Plus driving a wide & tall body box truck in the traffic you are describing would not be fun either.

Maybe a 5 by 8 trailer like mine would fit your needs better than a larger one I have suggested. Simple to unhook 5 by 8 and move into place with a wheel on the jack or you can purchase ,like I have a trailer dolly .I use both. Trailer is light enough that if I must I can pick up trailer at tongue and position in place to realign with hitch. UGH
Storage and security would be another consideration.

I really like your trailer and set up too. Hmmm, where do you park that thing at night;). When I go back to Washington that is how I plan on doing things. So I guess the thing to do is just use what I got the way I got it till then. Then I'll have to get a bigger trailer too :)
