I am looking at putting a bid on washing some commercial semi trucks for my current employer who I now drive for. There is about 20 of them in our yard, semi tractor and two double belly dumps per truck. The current guy is not doing a good job and I asked today if I could put a bid on the job and was told I could. I have never done this before so If some of you could give me an Idea on how to put together a personal bid I would appreciate it. From what I know the current guy is charging 95 per truck, he is prespraying some chemical with a pump up sprayer and then uses hot water with a pressure washer to rinse.

So how much should I charge? Thinking 65-70 a truck
    How much psi is needed?
How hot is too hot with pressure washer?
What are good chems to use to wash truck and aluminum trailers? (dont want to etch the metal of the bumpers or trailers)

Should I get chemical injection for the pressure washer?

    Thanks again

10+ years ago we charged 125. a truck. Purple power diluted heavily through an injector for a pre-spray one section at a time. Each section was one side of the trailer, the back of the trailer, the front of the cab, the back of the cab and one side of the cab. Scrub and rinse. Get the soot off the stacks and armor all the tires. They will be ecstatic. We did 3 trucks in 4 hours with two people.

fox6000, Im not trying to undercut this guy, Their going to fire him anyway. I just would like to make some extra money part time so I can eventually get my carpet cleaning off the ground. I hope to have the money and start that next spring. Untill then I can double what I am making now by adding this extra work.

Davenjai, They only want the trucks and trailers washed and some brightener used on a the trailers, bumpers and fuel tanks, no tire black. Where can I find the purple power solution? Thanks

bahrahm, Thanks for the info on the pressure washing site. I thought maybe some of you have done this type of work even though this section is for auto detailing. There is another gentleman who is going to bid on this project that owns an auto detailing business but from what I here he is going to be expensive for the company. He is offering 115 per truck the first time he washes each truck and then 75 the rest of the time if he can do it by weekly.

Purple power is everywhere. Autozone etc. You don't do the armor all because they want it. You do it because they don't expect it.

No. Never let it dry before rinsing.

I think you are charging too much. Ive heard of guys doing it for a 20 the truck and the bed for another 20 or some like that. They use like a 2 step process, quick , like 10min per truck and good job. Search on youtube for fleet washing, 2 step fleet wash. There is also http://www.fleetwashacademy.com/ you can get an idea of what they are doing.

it doesnt matter how much u charging.. most important thing is quality IMO. whatever price is good for u for a job(high quality), do it...there is still many companies look for high quality service, not a low price.

This would be Semi Truck washing with 2 34 cu.yard trailers, not pickup trucks. so its like 40 min a truck.

Are trucks are 4 times more dirty than those, I will have to post a pic. They are caked with grease and hydraulic fluid with a splash of coal dust and mud. Thanks for the video, thats kind of what I am looking to do but add two trailers per truck, aluminum beal belly dumps. These trucks run 24-7 no breaks, out of local mines so their really dirty. Thats why they charge so much to clean them.

If the other guy is going to get fired, DO NOT undercut his price you may even get more money, quality has a price 95 per truck is ok to me maybe not for other cleaners, my advice charge the same, get a hot pressure washer an long wand .or a telescopic pole and BUM with the first 2 times the machine will be paid for!!

Leuj20, I have been looking at hot pressure washers and wondering what PSI would be appropriate for this type of Job. I found one that is 4gpm @ 3500 psi cold for $600 and then add the deisel burner for $1499. Seems to be far cheaper than both together at first. ($4000).

I would also like to ask how do you get the soap to turn off and on on the wand without going to the chemical feed every time and shutting it off? Do you have to by a special tip for the wand to do this or a special wand?

I would get a bigger machine, like 8gpm one. So you will have it for other type of jobs too, in case you start in that cleaning area. I think there is a type of wand that allows you to do the soap on/off thingy, if not just take the downstream hose off from the chem bucket. Also find out about reclaiming the water, you dont wwant to get fined at the start up.

I get $55 for a basic wash and vac of a Yukpn XL. a big rig for $75? Way to low.. Pick up some Meguiars Wheel Brightner, spray on with a pump sprayer, pressure wash that shiznit off and you will look like a king. The tires, use a product called Hyper Dressing from Meguiars as well, can be diluted down to 1:4 and will look great. PM me for more info on the detailing bit...
