Here is one article on getting coffee stains off the carpets and rugs. I hope this helps http://www.articledashboard.com/Article/Tips-To-Getting-Rid-Of-The-Coffee-Stains/1822469
If this rug is chemically washed (which most contemporary rugs are, especially from China) - if you use a coffee stain remover you are going to own this rug. Be sure you test a SMALL area first, and look at the results from BOTH directions because every rug has a light and dark direction. And make sure you are WASHING this rug so that no chemical residue is in those fibers to potentially create a problem for you (especially if the homeowner put other spotters on it first - it could go nuclear on you). If the stain remover creates a different type stain it goes from being THEIR problem, to YOURS. So be extraordinarily careful. Lisa
Try a coffee stain remover. I accidentally spilled some coffee on my sisters rug recently and the stain remover clean't it right up!
For stains like-Wine, ketchup, coffee, tea, beer, milk, hard candy, juice etc-Take 1/4 teaspoon of dishwashing soap and one quart of water and mixed it. Then take a white cloth and dip it into a detergent solution and dab repeatedly, then press the cloth on the spot for a few seconds. Wait 15 minutes (it takes time to break down the stain), then soak up the excess liquid with a dry white cloth. Let set for a few seconds, and then blot up using a white towel. Rinse with clean water and blot up again until no stain appears on a white towel. Dip a cloth into the vinegar solution and dab repeatedly, Wait another 15 minutes. This is an important, because white vinegar removes residual detergent. Plumbing Supplies
Listen to Lisa, with wool if you use to strong of a spotter or cleaner you are likely to make a bad stuation even worse. Unfortunately coffee is a strong acid that will require a strong alkaline cleaner (which is what coffe stain remover is) and is a recipe for disaster on wool. Inform the customer before any work is done that on wool you are limited on which chemicals you can use, and that you can not guarantee the stain will come out. In fact I would tell them the stain is not going to come out. As customers they of course want miracles, but informing them before hand of the limitations will show your experience and expertice. I would recomend using a neutral oriental rug shampoo for cleaning.
