Hello everyone, I've been detailing cars for three years now. I never had any carpet cleaning equipment until now. I've never found a way to clean stains in headliners. When I try to use light agitation from a cloth the headliner gets frayed. Someone recommended I purchase a spray called tough stuff and then use my shamy to agitate. Can carpet cleaning equipment work on headliners, If so what method do I use, heat ? what chemical ? how much psi ?
I think you should try for the shampoo solution with a rotary scrubber, and then follow it up with hot water extraction. or you can try for the hot water extraction and follow that up with absorbent or oscillating pad cleaning...
I bought tuff stuff from walmart, auto parts stores should have it also. I tried it on a used headliner I purchased for one of my vehicles. I sprayed tuff stuff let sit for 1 minute then wiped with shamy. Came out looking great. I did this two hours ago. I can see darker patches where I sprayed. I will see tomorrow if it lightens up or if it's permanent. Just what I wanted a cleaning method without hookup of cc equipment since all of my car washes are mobile ( out of my van ). I cut a strip off of shamy to use just for the tuff stuff so I don't have to put that chemical on vehicles when I'm drying.
We have a winner. Apply a damp solution of Encapuclean Green DS and light agitation with mcirofiber cloth or mitt. Be cautious on older vehicles. The adhesive holding the headliner breaks down over years and when it losses its grip the headliner will sag. Moisture and excessive agitation are your enemies on these older vehicles. Encap is an ideal choice.
A PORTABLE / DON'T WANT TO LOOSE THAT HEADLINER CAUSE YOU WILL IF IT IS TO DIRTY / PORTABLE STEAM + SOME MICROFIBERS & SOME SIMPLE GREEN SPAY SOME DILUTUED SIMPLE GREEN 4 TO 1 IS GOOD / INTO THE M-FIBER & AT THE SAME TIME RUB IT USING THE STEAM DO SMALL AREAS / HAVE A BUCKET WITH CLEAN WATER / WASH & RINSE YOUR TOWEL, THIS WILL MAKE A NICE DIFFERENCE
you will end up soaking way to much that Headliner / I don't advise to use any Suction from a Portable either / it will be sucked I have done a lot of headlinners and all you need is: -All purpose cleaner -Work in small sections -you can pre-spay on a sponge, a Micro fiber towel / rub it / have a bucket with clean water, and rinse that M-Fiber towl if it is to dirty / add some degreaser to your spray bottle [ all purpouse cleaner ] And if you have available, use a Portable steam machine, that will really help you If not, the Sponge or M-Fiber towel with your spray bottle with degreaser & APCleaner will do it
