Hi guys I'm very green in the carpet cleaning business. All I can smell in my solvz all or whatever is acetone (fingernail polish remover). My urine treatment smells like vinegar. What is the drawback of using vinegar on pee and straight acetone from the hardware store paint section as a dry solvent? for that matter, would it be okay to use citric acid to neutralize the pH of a carpet? I'm pretty sure that the Acetone would be pound for pound WAAAY cheaper that the stuff in the aerosol can. What do you guys use for spotting?

Support our sponsors and buy a spotting kit. Proschoice is good , Matrix is good super eazy directions , Or you want cheap .99 for a bar of Felsnaptha soap, sally's beauty supply and 40 vol peroxide as a booster. To remove yello from carpet we have had great luck with Proschoice urine stain remover at full strenth with spray bottle.

Not every ingredient in a spotter has a smell associated with it.

Yes, quality spotters may contain acetone or citric acid. But they also contain other ngredients to help the spotter penetrate better, to accelerate the cleaning process, to make the product rinse easier (acetone is difficult to rinse), to prevent resoiling, and other ways improve or protect.

Manufacturers do a lot of research and development tog et the best combination of ingredients. Tyhey also carry liability insurance. If your hardware store products damage you or the carpet or someone's child or pet, do have the millions in liability insurance to protect yourself? Does your coverage including acting as a chemist?

A bridgepoint spotting kit will cost less than $200 and contain enough products to do thousands worth of carpet cleaning. Then you can refill when necessary from larger containers and get some saving there.

Plus you get a nice insultaed carrier to keep the product fresh and some nice tools when you purchase a spotting kit.
