    since olefin is not as absorbent as other fibers, it obviously will not absorb as much protectant as other fibers. But it will absorb some.

    Olefin is known for having an affinity for oils. Protectors may not give any added benefit against water carried stains, but protectors add a measure of protection against oil based stains.

    Olefin that has been subject to use and traffic has more abraded "nooks and crannies" for the protector to get a grip on. Some worn olefin actually will take a pretty reasonable layer of protector.

    Since olefin has an affinity for oils, it will accept solvent based protector better than wtaer based protectors. However, there are health and safety trade offs when spraying a solvent over large areas of carpet. Use a respirator and make sure ventilation is adequate.

    Andy;

    As Scott mentioned, the solvent-based fluorochemicals will provide the best repellency on Olefin fibers.
