I have a very reliable Bruin II with about 8500 hours on it, yesterday though the radiator hose blew on me during a job and the engine overheated. I replaced the hose and went on with my day...on the next job I lost one of the belts on the blower. Even after this everything seemed to be working fine and so I continued on. Later on in the evening I cleaned a restaurant after the unit had been sitting for several hours and it was as if my heat exchanger was not doing anything. The water heats (slowly) up to about 140F, but then stops. Also, my vacuum has been noticeably decreased. I assume that all of this is connected in some way...but I am not sure how. Should I stop using the unit until I get it figured out? (it still cleaned the restaurant well, it just took longer)
Make sure your dump valve is closed, your waste tank lid gasket is in good condition, engine is spinning at the proper rpm's. Is your heat bypass valve open or is your temp control set up to the right temp? Is your machine bypassing water through them bypass solenoid or is the thermal valve on the water box opertating at the right temp? Is your waste tank filter clogged? Steve
OK..I think I got it figured out. I replaced all the belts on the blower and that took care of the vacuum problem. I still had no hot water though and water started running out of the engine exhaust. I assumed that meant that my heat exchanger was bad and a call to Jon-Don confirmed that..So they are overnighting me a new heat exchanger and all the fixins.. The way that the service tech explained it to me and the way it looks, it doesn't seem that changing these out should be all that difficult, is there anything I need to watch for?
They are easy to switch just replaced one myself, when we ordered ours it was back orderd by almost two weeks.
Just noticed your in Lancaster, OH. There is a Prochem dealer in Columbus, Were roughly 2 hours west of you and thats who we get most of our parts from.
Yea, I know..I called them and they weren't able to get it in as quickly. Another question: Will I cause any more damage if I use my unit before I install the new one?
Here is an idea leave the pre heatexchanger in take the lines off and run them together simple water hose repair kit, this way your not pushing water out engine exhaust, it wont help heat in any way but will get you by until the new one is installed.
Does anyone know what kind of engine they have in the Prochem Bruin 2? I know its the 3 cyl Kubota engine. Just wondering if anyone knew the exact type. I would like to get ahold of the Service Manual for the Engine. I found the service manual for the Unit, just not the engine itself.
