Thought this place would have the most box truck owners. :)

To those of you that own them what are your thoughts? Would you get one again or go back to a regular cargo?

The one im looking at is an ex penske truck (should be better maintained then Uhaul? lol)

Exact same width as the van so makes parking in regular spots great peace

2007 with 100,000 miles 4.8 v8 3500. Probably wont put a TM inside it. so weight really wont be an issue for the 4.8

    Thanks in advance!

PS. what do you think of the rough design for my wrap?

Just the fact alone that you will have a "rolling billboard" is worth getting a box truck.

Even a extended cargo van fills up real quick with stuff.

If you go with a wrap, just remember what you are trying to do. Let people know what you do and how to contact you.

You can read my truck 20 doors down the street.

Also if there is a car parked next to my truck, you can still read the number because it is up high.

so I am having trouble finding a used box truck with a side door on it. is there specific brands/model numbers that have them I seem to be drawn to the izuzu's but i am open.

Or does everyone cut it open and make it yourself?

I love my box truck it's a 2011 3500 10ft box only thing I would do the bigger motor.
I start with a cargo van and would not go back. I also would of liked the 12 ft box.but my parking around here sucks. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

did you get this truck with the door in it or did you retro fit that? I feel like I would even outgrow that size. I am looking to hold Tile & Grout, Carpet cleaning gear as well as stone polishing equip. in mine. 14' I am thinking. Just can't seem to find one with a side door.

    Eric,

Don't limit you choice of which truck you get just by the side door. What I mean is get the best truck for the best price and then worry about the door.

I paid $850.00 to have mine done. Start by calling trailer dealers. They can do it for you for a reasonable price.

elixir industires has trailer doors they will ship to me for $120 with hardware. they say its easy to install. All I need to do is tell them my rough opening and they will make it 1/4" smaller and ship it. I need to frame inside the box around the opening for support and a small header in metal. It would be a left hinge door on the passenger side of the box.

a thought I am having is being able to reach the TM key an throttle etc.. mine is set high on the unit and might not be able to reach from the ground. would have to install a step????

fox, you know you can cut that FRP and have even more room in air damm

eric, another is to consider what type of side door. barn, roll up, shutter, or bi fold lift up

I have 2 trucks im leaning toward the latter

those big side doors, 3-4 foot, can be pain to open if parked next to a mercedes

What is your plan for the winter? If you have a big heated shop ok, if not thats a big area to keep everything from freezing when it gets cold.

Ah the joys of living in the north.

get it spray foamed - underneath the floor, walls and ceiling. Then on the rear roll up door attach rigid foam to each door piece.
It will only take a small electric heater on the coldest days to keep it above zero.
You could also put a Sbar heater in it, the small diesel version uses something like a quart over a 24 hour period

    something like this
    http://cargovancanada.com/SprayFoam.shtml

I dont think ill ever (but who knows?) put a tm in it again. I want it just for the rolling billboard "wow"factor
