Ok here's my vac gauge readings as I'm trying to figure out if my vacuum is normal..

    With unit in high RPM:

No hoses attached my vac gauge is at 4 HG
Inline hydro filter with 8 ft of hose vac gauge is at 6 HG
ADD another 50' hose vac gauge is at 8 HG
ADD another 100' hose vac gauge is at 10 HG
with the vacuum inlet on the machine clogged with a thick towel I'm getting 13 HG

What are you guys getting in any of those scenario's?

The 4'' reading. Is that with one port blocked or both open? Clean tank filters?

The second inlet is always blocked with some fitting. Tank filters are relatively clean might have A little debris. I'm going to run a snake through the vac port tomorrow and see if that first number goes down

Ran a snake through my vacuum piping, found nothing.. But I did vacuum out my tank filters which weren't that dirty in the first place..
But now without any hoses connected and at high speed I'm seeing 2 HG..

With the inlet port clogged I'm seeing 11 HG..

With one port blocked and the machine on high, mine read just over 1.

On the 405, no hose, one port blocked and at high speed, the reading should be 5-7 hg. ( if it is higher then you have blockage in the vac tude or at the vac filter in the waste tank ). Under full load at high speed ( both ports blocked ) it should be at 14 hg. ( if it is lower, you have a leak and it may be the waste tank lid gasket or the short hose connecting the machine to the waste tank ). Make sure the gauge is on "0" before you start. If it is not on "0" when it is off, that number is now "0" and count from there. Make sure that the vac gauge line is sealed onto the vac relief elbow that is connected to the blower. Too much vac will cause more heat, too little vac will cause heat loss.

In the manual "Performer & Performer 405" page 5, the vacuum relief valve setting is 13hg. The "Performer" setting is 14hg. I would set the 405 to 14hg. But thanks for the correction.

I scanned this from my book. Here's what I'm thinking. I have a 4LL blower. I know they changed the blower from 4LL to 4LP. Perhaps the 4LP is 13Hg.

Mine is a 1994 model. It was installed the same day oj simpson was chased down the freeway.haha
If you have a 4LL then yours should be 12Hg. I would get to the bottom of that. Did you buy yours brand new? Has nothing to do with engine size.

Pretty sure 4LL Sutorbilt has two shafts. 4LP has one shaft and 3" ports.

I have the 4LL so I'll set mine at 12 HG, but my problem is that when I try to adjust the relief valve the actual screw is turning with it! So I can turn either way and it won't make a difference, why on earth would they design it that way? Now I might have to take the whole long VAC blower hose off and put a wretch on the other side! Any other suggestions?

There should be two nuts on the long bolt they need to be separated 1st. Then you adjust the nut closest to the blower by tightening or loosening it up depending if you want more hg's or less. You can hold the bolt with pliers also.

My relief is set a 15 with a glide it usually never locks down that high to where it opens. depends on the carpet. generates a little more heat that way. 9 year old machine close to 9000 hours.

You have to put vise grips high on the threaded part so it won't turn with the nut.
