I see a few of guys on here charge $99 for cleaning a full house. I was wondering what do you charge for cleaning Rugs?

The reason I ask, Howard Partridge is holding a Ruginar tonight and the starting price for a 80 sq ft rug is £120.00 plus 50% up-sell for pet odour removal. that's $180 bucks for a Rug.

Now I do feel it is possible to get good prices for Rug cleaning. However, how do you justify charging such a large amount for a Rug when you do the carpets for next to nothing?

$99.00 will get me to your front door and get your living room done.

We have the Craigslist guys here doing that kinda crap.
That's all you see for CC's on CL here, cheap crap CC's.
Cut rate clowns that promise great work with great chems for far less
    than the HIGH PRICE CLEANERS.

There is a guy here charging $99 for a whole house. I don't know his strategy or his business model, but he seems intelligent and has offered a lot of great advice here. Don't be too quick to judge.

I am one of the guys who cleans the whole house for $100 if the whole house is 4 rooms and its open areas only... most of the time that ends up being under 600 sq feet, because some of the bed rooms have beds in them an other furniture its very popular where i am at an is really the norm... now please consider this is not a 1 million dollar home if it was it wold be much bigger and yes i would and do charge more, most of the homes i do are with in 15 min drive if that far some or 5 to 10 min... of course if we move furntire its more and we do a good job... and so would you its a good deal.... make sure you not comparging apples to oranges,,, if you move all the furnitre and you block and tap everything and the rooms are huge then yes the price should be much more...

That's my point if you're charging $99 to clean a 600 sq ft house how can you charge $120 to clean a rug.

What would you charge to clean a rug that is 80 sq ft? The way I see it is unless you charge top dollar for carpet cleaning, then it is really difficult to charge top dollar for rug cleaning.

my answer is I would not charge that much, I woudl first talk about how sending it to a rug cleaning plant would provide a much better clean, but they most likley bought it at lowes or pier one, and do not want to pay to have it sent to rug cleaning plant.. so i will go over it an charge about $25 and count it as a room ...

I agree. I run that special and it includes up to 5 rooms- with a square footage limit. Keep in mind that steps are not included so you can usually add 25 bucks or so. It typically takes me 2.5 hours for the standard home so im getting about 60 or so per hour minus chems. It also depends heavily on your market, it is saturated here. I WOULD never clean for less but I have to stay competitive here. ALSO- I may not be the best cc here but I can assure you that the carpets are clean when I leave and I never ever cut any corners. All my equipment is paid for and I have really good chems that through trial and error I have found to be the best bang for my buck.

Don't know how you guys can live off $100 tickets. My last house had 800sqft of carpet empty and was $170. Man this is in cheap a$$ Pensacola, Florida. You guys have to stop playing limbo with your means of making money. Charge what you need to make a living for your family!!!

i'm somewhere in the middle. earlier today i did about 800sq of lightly soiled carpet for $150. i do the 3 or 450sq/ft rooms for $99 with .20/sq extra {ballparking} but would never do whole homes for $99 unless they were 1000sq homes with 60% carpet and nothing in them. i just can't justify more than 1hr tops for that price.

I also want to know how long is it taking you to clean this 800 sq ft... i want to make sure we are not comparing apples to oragans... when i say i am cleaning it its a 1300sq ft home and efficent very... if it take you say two hours to clean 800sq ft then dude you are slow... now that is if your not like going through the garage and up the steps and down the hall and around the corner to the room... keep an mind if it took you and hour to ride through traffic.. like i said differant story...

Its me!! im the guy who does houses for 99.00 and apartments for 49.00. My company has 12 houses lined up for today and 17 apartments. We do close to this or more 5 days a week and on saturday about half of that. I am back at the office after doing 5 houses and it is 4:40 pm. One of the houses was 7 rooms totaling about 990 sq feet of carpet cleaned and another was two rooms a hall and stairs, the others weresomewhere in between. I put together routes for my trucks that minimize driving times and all my guys are well paid. Also I have never bait and switched anyone in 15 years and we put 0 pressure on any of our customers to add on other services. Our referal rate would blow you away!!! Now about getting 180 to do an area rug? not in my world. I had a customer add on a 6x8 area rug today, I did it for 20 bucks. If it is an expensive area rug i will recommend sending it to a rug cleaning mill, and I hand the customer a card of a very good one in my area.

My minimum is $120.00. Yeah, it turns a few tiny jobs away, but I don't want to work an hour and a half for $100.00. If I make less than 100-120 per hour, I'm not a happy camper. Have you guys ever tried raising your prices (remembering that it pays to get no's)?

I was afraid someone would take offense to my comments, that was not my intention.
I was referring to "HERE", as in northern California, and I should have stated that.
It's not a big metropolis, 100,000 people, and word gets around.
These guys are almost all wet n jet types.
They would be out of your 800 - 1300 sq. ft. house in under an hour.

Not all CC's "HERE" work cheap, some charge more than I do, some less.

Our most expensive CC would charge $400 and $650 for 800 and 1300 sq. ft., Way too much for what he delivers.

If I were to do that same 800 ft. house the charge would be $250 empty ($370 with Teflon) and $205 occupied ($325 with Teflon).
For the 1300 sq. ft. the charge would be a little over $400 empty ($575 with Teflon), occupied about $325 ($520 with Teflon)
I realize that different regions have different markets, I can charge more here, but not as high as another region might be able to.
I'm in this to make a living, not to get by and work my @ss off for too little.
I don't mind not working all day every day while the low price guys are.
That's a totally different market that I have no interest in.

Howard charges $120 for a cheap 8x10 synthetic rug. For wool rugs the price is higher. Several years ago, I talked to Howard about pricing of rug cleaning. At that time, he was charging $2.50per sqft. with 50% charge for pet urine, plus an additional rate for protector.

I charge $2.50 per sqft for wool rug cleaning/washing with 50% for pet urine. I charge $1.50 per sqft for synthetic rugs with 50% for pet urine. I don't clean rugs on site if I can help it. I always try to get the customer to let me take the rug to my shop. I never do any work on a rug with urine in it on site.

You can charge these rates if you are using a very thorough precess. If you are simply hot water extracting the rug on site, you cant charge much, because you aren't doing much except for causing potential problems for future work IMO.

i used to work for a guy that had those prices and the way i was thought was to do the inspection, then get the hoses in the house then start extracting.... that means no pre spray, no corner guard, no agitation using a groom no pre spotting and no drying... and when you done cleaning put everything back in the van, get the bill and go to next location... no quality !! ... i guess if the carpet is not that dirty then that's all you need but if you have a really dirty carpet then your quality will be poor since you have to rush to the next location or you will lose the job.... heavy greasy traffic lane, stains and spots will remain if not giving right amount of time and attention... its really hard to deliver quality work when you doing a half fast job.... i rather do 2 jobs making $400 to $600 then 4 to 6 jobs a day making the same amount... but i know some people don't want all that... they just want a quick clean for the best price so i guess it works out for every one

L.C. that sounds like a lot of the local CC's here.
    Splash n Dash!
When I first started my business, I thought those guys were my competition.
    They are not.
I kept my prices down till I figured out that that was'nt the market I wanted to target.
I did'nt want to compete with the low price leaders.
My confidence and abilities are higher than that.
My work was too good for that, and not being a spring chicken, I definitely did'nt want to work that hard.
I've pushed my price up to where I still get enough work, and it's there, believe me.

    Work smarter, not harder.

    basically

same thing i do. i tell customers that we're not the cheapest place in town but we are one of the best values. price shopping is easy if you're after an electronic item. they are all the same. with a service business it's really hard to compare what your dollar is buying
