Sounds like its getting too hot, or a faulty temperature sensor, which automatically shuts it down, the fan in the back is helping to keep it cool, but replacing the sensor or finding out what is causing the overheating is your best route.

I imagine you have already checked the usual suspects... waste tank shutoff switch, low water pressure switch, grass plugging ur inbound water, low oil level, fuel flow...

When u figure it out let us know. I have that same engine and so far every time it gave me trouble it was either operator error or something simple.

    Good luck.

Sounds like it could be vapor lock. This is a strange time of year for that to happen unless you are in the southern hemisphere. Do you have an electric fuel pump or are you depending on the vacuum pump to draw fuel? What about a fuel filter.

I have a powermatic w/a 23 hp kohler, mine did the same thing, turned out to be the coil. You could try that.

Once had a new inboard/outboard boat that would bog down and then die after it got heated up. Ended up being a resistor in the ignition system that when heated allowed too much current to flow. Lesson just because you have replaced the coils and wires doesn't mean that cannot be the problem. This has to be driving you crazy.

Could it be the low oil sensor is bad?

Ours turned out to be the magneto. Check for spark the next time it shuts down.

    I have the Same engine!

Mine did this for the Longest time.

Did a thread like this and got advice from Larry Cobb at DynaChem.

    Reads:

Re: Help from Twin Engine Kohler Oweners.
    Joseph;

It is a fuel delivery problem.

Make sure you have a vent in the fuel tank,
and that the tank is too far below the engine.

If all that checks out, then the Kohler pump diaphram is probably weak.

    Larry

IT WORKED AND NEVER DID IT AGAIN!!!........:bigsmiley:

I JUST OPEN THE GAS CAP TO VENT IT!!!!!!

    THANKS AGAIN TO LARRY!!!

How long did you run it?

    Shorter period = less vacuum!

Also how full the tank is can effect the time needed to run before the vacuum is stronger than the pump for the kohler.

many factors here - just crack the gas cap when you run the Kohler. Run the temp and vacuum high and hard like you do when you need that much Heat and vaccum.

Do this for awhile and see you it does it again.

    As for

"i did put a knew fuel pump on a few years ago and it wasn't the original style i wonder if that might have any thing to do with it????????????????"

Try the above first! I know that my kohler stock fuel pump well suck a Fuel pump up bulb FLAT! ( bulb is like what is on boat engines - I use it to prime the engine - works great!)

If it work lets others know here - if it does not fix it - - lets looks at the other options!

JUST PLEASE COME BACK AND PUT THE DOES OR DOES NOT WORK!

OTHERS READ THESE POST AND THIS IS A GOOD THREAD!!

This sounds like the exact same problem I had years ago with a Power Matic Legacy. It ended up being the ignition key switch. Something was loose and it would just shut off randomly as if it ran out of gas. There is a red wire that goes to the carb from the ignition switch and somehow this was not allowing the carb to get fuel. Try to replace the ignition, check all of the terminals to make sure they are tight.

Try running it with out the air cleaner and cover to see if that does anything.

Also did you clean the float? Weird stuff happens when that little pin doesn't cut off the gas.
