What would cause fuel leaking from the burner coil and what sort of damage am I looking at when I take this in to get it fixed
Fuel leaking from the BURNER coil? Hmmm, something's not right if you have fuel in there at all. The nozzle sprays kero into the burner head where it ignites and warms up the coil lines that have water in them, not fuel.
When I say "burner coil", I mean that big cylinder "thingy", that is mounted "sideways" in the van. The leak is on the end where the "transformer"/"ignitor" is located.
Chances are it's the line or the head and it's dripping or running down the burner coil cover.
Check that the brass fitting is tight there and that there are no splits in the copper line. While you're in there adjust the burner prongs to ensure you're getting a complete burn.
There is a solenoid that controls the flow of fuel to the nozzle. It could be plugged or defective. Its a bolt on part and I don't remember those costing all that much money.
Kero is leaking from the burner area under the wastetank puddling on the floor.
Mine did something similar last year. I replaced everything and the last thing was the fuel pump. There is a seal around the pump shaft that went bad. Constant flow of fuel anytime the heater switch was on.
Those burners have constant fuel pressure behind the solenoid. Once the heat sensor says where cold the sol opens and the pressure goes to the tip spray nozzel to be ignited.
If you are mechanical or a technician is this can be repaired at your shop. Pull the machine out halfway four bolts and the burner is out. Undo the battery to remove, use extention cord instead of generator. With machine off turn the heat switch on see where it is coming from. The fan will be running so becareful where you hold it.
Other possibilities are a fuel line leak. Clogged nozzel not misting the fuel. Is she getting hot and firing normal?
Also any commercial pressurewasher supply should have the burner pump and electrode rebuild kit. Tell them you have a Wayne Burner. Check the plastic extention gear inside .
SOLUTION;
Looks like it needed a new transformer. $145 from a high pressure cleaning equipment sales company. Not too bad.
