    couplers on mastermatics

Steamway machines had problems with the couplers continuing to break apart. did they figure out what caused the problem and what did they do to fix it. I know alignment is a major concern with these but was there any other causes. I have a Mastermatic I sidelined because of problems.

    Allignment is fairly simple.

Sometimes things happen. It could have been many things . However LIke any machine changeing couplers on a regular basis is just ggod maintence.

I used a mastermatic for about 12 with my previous employer and loved the machine. The 4100 was one of the best tm steamway ever built, imho. As far as the coupling, I've had some last 2 years and I've had some last 2 months. I don't if steamway used the same supplier through the years or what. I was always very precise when I lined up the shafts, but like I said before, some couplings would last and some wouldn't.

are you checking all three angles of straightness when you are aligning the coupler? also if it is a number 6 coupler that was stock...it needs to a number 7...well thats what i found out to help.
