    boiler problems

i think my transformer got weak, caused heavy soot in legacy 2100. throughout process of regaining enough heat to charge for cleaning i have: replaced all burner components(borrowed), bypassed generator, used a degreaser with shopvac, garden hose, and scrub brush to clean coils while in van, and finally dropped to #3 jet instead of #5. now making 240 plus and limping along. sleep better w/#5. tried #4 but lost heat, only makes 190. after days of messing w/ this i think i am close to expert w/ system(removal, replacement, air band adjustment, ect). she has a clean and beautiful burn. looks great. sounds great. smells and tastes great. oh, it only performs up to expectations w/#3 jet. guess not expert. know the cold temps here can effect her, but never this bad since she became mine, 2003. please help

Classic, Sounds like you have a pretty good understanding as to how things work on this burner. Sounds like this unit is pretty much under control. So I dont understand what you need help with.
Try lowering your water pressure a little so you wont limp along. This winter is colder than last one. I dont remember any days last year dipping under 10 below. Just a thought. Don't buy a new burner.
PS- your hilarious. I like the taste also LOL

Oh, One question. When you say jet, your talking about jet at the wand right? Because SW recomends a number 3 for that. Just wondering because there are kero jets.

Classic, it sounds like you know what you are doing. I wish you could come down to Georgia and troubleshoot our Steamways the next time they get tempermental. Ara is correct, Steamway reccomends a #3 jet anyway. And that Traverse City winter is also going to have an effect!

    thanx for responding

hey guys, descaled again today. got some goodies out of her, still only get 195 ish in shop on #4 wand jet. know that #3 cleans, but #5 leaves no questions. i understand thats a lot of water, but we match steam strokes w/extraction strokes. i can tell a difference and can never give up. tried prochem titanium. steamway wand w/#5(think it was from greenglides) smoked it side by side. only run 450 psi on trigger, 500 dead head. hooked on 240 in summer and 250 ish in winter, depending on rug of course. almost 6 yrs into this incredibly fulfilling gig, referral based, and having every customer(yup, didnt ask a couple) tell me "best work ever seen" is absolutely an addiction. fear change more than a retiree that wakes up at 5 a.m. every day to get mail. less than 2 call backs a month. not tootin horn. just scared to be only as good. small operation, van and trailer mount. trailer( not used much in winter) is steamway platinum. antique and almost bulletproof(inviting murphys law here) she never lacks for heat. would put in van save for oil leak that cannot be found, plus never had lovejoy go out on her, so no wrench will touch mounts. flow on problem unit is fantastic. know this is long but had a barley sandwich. or 2. controlled environment, descaled(a bunch), brand new firing/burner assembly, great flow, less heat. what a drag. can anybody figure this w/out new coil? doesnt make sense. know #3 jet works, but posture when walking out door isnt as tall. anybody still reading this? i appreciate your help

LOL your handfull dude. Geez, anyone who dont know the lingo would be lost without a paddle. Good Lovejoy your dodging morter fire. Try adjusting kero pressure a tiny bit to see if you can get more flame but you will need a pressure gauge. I honestly think your 1/4 mile is fine. Your not gonna hit 250 every run. I see you've bypassed the inverter with a straight run from the outlet. Goodjob. Now pull that puppy and watch the the arch for fifteen minutes. See if she stays arching without riding up the stem.

check the pressure on the kerosene pump....jetting problems such as clogging and wear my reduce your fire power....because of dripping or poor atomization...low fuel pressure will give you same problems...
