    Koehler Aegis26

Any help please. Today 2hrs into our 1st. job my Freedom XT shut down . It sputtered as if it ran out of gas. Still had 1/2 tank, Fuel feed line was submerged, fuel line not clogged, waste tank wasnt full, etc. etc. The thing wanted to start but seemed to not be getting any fuel . After talking to Powerclean and running down the checklist they seem to think the fuel pump went out. After talking to interlink and my local koehler service/parts store they both say thats not at all common on this motor(fuel pump is located in/under the valve cover)especially with only 350 hours. After 2 hours of searching for a fuel pump and debating about installing an inline pump we tried to start it and it fired right up(several times) and ran like a champ we decided to test it on a small 500sqft job and it performed as well as ever before. WTH? My brother thinks it vapor locked, 97 degrees, sunny , hot and dry weather. This is the 1st time this has happened and weve ran longer and harder in hotter weather several times before. Anybody have a clue? Luckily we only had to stairs left to complete the job ! WHEW...... Thanks in advance

sounds like vapor lock to me. my briggs started doing it a few weeks. it drove me crazy, i changed the fuel pump, rerouted the fuel line it was better but still did it sometimes. when i felt the fuel line it was extremely hot. so i insulated the fuel line all the way back to the waste tank (mine feeds from the vans gas tank).no problems since. you might want to put an electric fuel pump inline, depending on where your fuel tank is it can be a long ways to siphon to the fuel pump on the engine.

Well it ran like a champ all day today, and today was 6 degrees hotter(103) so thats a good sign. Kevin, what did you use to insulate the fuel line? I'd like to try that. I have about 8' of exposed line that runs under the trailer... Thanks in advance

i used the foam (like you insulate pipes with) and then wrapped it with reflective heat tape. it worked everywhere except where it touched hot metal tm frame. so i rewrapped those areas with exhaust wrap.

i don't think you need to worry about it under the trailer. my problem was where the fuel line ran right next to the engine and exhaust.

If you don't have an electric fuel pump to pressurize the fuel line you are more likely to experience vapor lock spots where high heat is close to the line. When depending on the engines fuel pump the fuel in line between the fuel tank and pump is basically under a small vacuum and more susceptible to leaving its liquid state. Add heat and voila.

    Re: Koehler Aegis26

I heard a long time ago that car motors are designed with the fuel line (specifically close) close to the engine. This will cause the fuel to vapor lock before the engine gets to hot to damage itself (like if the coolant isnt working or drained .... ECT).

Ara Klujian ... do you think there's any truth to that and if so is it done for same reason on TM's?

Well its happened 2x's in 2 days. Really frustrating! Today it cost me 2 hours at our last job(just glad the custy was not home to witness it). Have an appt at Interlink tomarrow. Im thinking the fuel pump is actually the problem. Might add an inline pump. Any input? Thanks

    Re: Koehler Aegis26

Well we added an inline filter and fuel pump but during a four hour job the next day we shut down 2-3 times. I then put the motor covers back on and it hasnt shut off since?!. We originally vapor locked(wouldnt start for 2 hours), the covers were taken off at that time. But then we started to shut down but would restart without any probs.(not vapor lock).thats when we added the filter/pump. So we really have no idea what was causing the shut downs. I think it was the fuel filter that actually fixed the prob. Who knows !?.

Just curious: was the vehicle on level ground? How much fuel was in the tank? How far into the tank is the fuel line?

I really dont think so because fuel is concidered a form of cooling also. Have you ever noticed that there are no engine shutdowns on cars? This is because it is far more dangerous to shut down a car while driving then to let the engine overheat. When the engine dies on a car you loose power steering and brakes. This would be a serious liability if cars where manufactured this way.

    Re: Koehler Aegis26

I had a problem with a truckmount using a 22 HP Kholer Command engine. The truckmount mfg was assured that the
little fuel pump sitting on the engine would be enough to pull gas from my gasoline tank.
Bottom line it didn't so I called the mfg and he sent me an inline fuel pump and never had another problem with fuel
    getting to engine.
